ECO Club Info
ECO club is sponsoring a raffle ticket drive for students who lessen plastic waste by regularly using re-usable water bottles. Teachers randomly hand out raffle tickets to students in classes, homeroom or lunch. Tickets can be turned in to the office bins for drawings for:
Plato’s closet gift card Papa Murphy’s gift card One of several succulents
*Looking for help with a few ECO club Lunchroom Projects:
Recently ECO club conducted a survey of almost all WHS students during homeroom asking about their use of disposable vs real silverware. The majority of students responded that they would prefer metal silverware and shared a few ideas on how to ensure metal silverware is not thrown away. SO….ECO club will be starting a “Sick of Sporks” drive during which students can donate metal silverware to be used by our lunchroom and they will receive a raffle ticket towards several prizes. Also we are facing long lines to warm up food during lunch and our 3 microwaves are not enough, so please consider:
Donating an unwanted, functioning microwave to WHS to be used during both lunches
Donating forks or spoons that do not match your set at home (or purchase at Goodwill)
Thank you so much! -WHS ECO club

Unique Majors at UWSP
Over the years we have heard many students express an interest in design, interior design, and architecture. The Interior Architecture degree at UW Stevens Point is a program that serves these interests in a growing field. Watch this video for more information.
Working in the outdoors is also something in which many of our students share an interest. Often times students think only of DNR Warden and Wildlife Management careers. The Wildlife Fire Science major offers students the opportunity to work with wildlife managers in a unique way in an outdoor environment. Watch this video for more information.
National Honor Society
The fall 2018 applicants experienced the new and improved application process, and the advisors want to make the process more transparent for those eligible to apply in the fall of 2019 (those with a 3.6 cumulative GPA following an academic year). One component and change, which was optional this year but will be a requirement starting in the fall of 2019, is that applicants must be able to verify 10 hours of community service completed in the past 12 months. Applicants must also demonstrate ACTIVE involvement in a minimum of 2 activities (in or outside of school) with verification of involvement from advisors. Finally, one other significant change is that applicants have to be able to demonstrate their leadership (might be as captain of a sport, but can also be assuming responsibility within a club or even a classroom) and have that verified. Abiding by national policy, the applications will be reviewed by an anonymous faculty council to determine which students best fulfill all four pillars of scholarship, service, character, and leadership. Advisors hope to have the applications ready for the 2019 eligible applicants by the August orientation night.
