A Message from Mr. Shepler
Last week during Focus classes, all Lockerman Middle School students participated in a school-wide service learning project focused on educating and raising awareness about COVID-19 safety precautions amongst our local school communities. Lockerman Middle School has partnered with our feeder elementary schools to create and share how to/instructional videos, pamphlets, poems or other approved media on how to properly wear a mask, proper technique for hand washing, what it means to practice social distancing, and not touching your face. For participating in daily class activities and submitting a project, students received 10 service learning hours towards the 75 hours required for graduation.
A few upcoming events:
- Monday, Nov. 9th- Citizens Advisory Council Meeting at 6 PM
- Tuesday, Nov. 10th- Half Day for Students
- Tuesday, Nov. 10th- End of Quarter 1
- Wednesday, Nov. 11th- Virtual Veterans Day Event (Final details coming soon)
- Wednesday, Nov. 18th- No School for Students

I am pleased to announce that we are finally finishing up the distribution of laptops for all LMS students. CCPS is going 1:1 and it is required that you pick up a laptop for your child. These student devices will be used throughout their educational career in Caroline County Public Schools. Our technology department is able to push out updates to CCPS devices to ensure your child has access to everything they need to learn virtually. If you have not received a phone call to pick up a device, please contact the school (410-479-2760).
Thank you all for your continued support. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
Thanks.
Matt Shepler

CCPS Positive Case Report
In these difficult times, it’s easy for misinformation to spread. The goal of CCPS is to ensure communication protocols are thorough and transparent, while protecting employee and student privacy. Please remember that we do have a process for advising those identified as close contacts of a person testing positive. These notifications are followed by an email that tells staff and families of a positive COVID-19 case in our building.
This communication process can be found on the CCPS website page Positive Case Reports. This page also includes a weekly report, by building, of any positive cases reported among staff or students. Feel free to share this page with anyone needing accurate, verified information.

News from the Library- Repost
- Students may request books from the library using the forms that are linked on the LMS website. Mrs. Porter has posted videos explaining how to use the forms. Your student will receive an email when their books are ready for pickup. Once they have received the email, books may be picked up at the school during school hours or, if you already receive meal delivery, they will be delivered on Wednesdays with your meals.
- All students with overdue books received an email from Mrs. Porter with the titles of the books that they still have out. Please help your student locate these books and return them to any Caroline County Public School during school hours or any public library book drop, which are available 24/7.
News from the Nurse- Repost
For students that have returned to the building, we continue to enforce simple actions of wearing our face coverings and washing our hands frequently. In addition, it is more important than ever to not send your student to school sick or not feeling well. Parents/ guardians must review and monitor their child’s symptoms and exposure risk each day before sending their students to school. Temperature screening must also occur daily prior to reporting to school. This information is available in the CCPS COVID-19 Awareness Parent/Guardian Attendance Acknowledgement Statement.
Students cannot attend school or any school activities if they are:
Exhibiting any signs/symptoms of COVID-19
Have been in close contact (within 6 feet for at least 15 minutes) to someone who is positive for COVID-19 or is exhibiting COVID-19 like symptoms in the past 14 days
Has been diagnosed with COVID-19 or has been instructed by a health care provider or the health department to isolate or quarantine.
Students must be fever free (less than 100F) for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication to attend school.
The school nurse must be contacted if the student can not attend school due to illness.
Signs and Symptoms of COVID-19 include the following:
* New onset of cough or shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
* New loss of taste or smell
Or at least two of the following symptoms:
* Fever (100.4F or higher)
* Chills or shaking chills
* Sore throat
* Headache
* Muscle or body aches
* Nausea, vomiting
* Diarrhea
If you have any questions, please call the health room and ask for guidance. Also remember to notify the school nurse if your child is at home due to an illness. Finally, The National Association of School Nurses have developed videos to discuss face coverings, hand washing and not sending your student to school sick. The videos are in English and Spanish. They are great for all age groups of children. These videos can be found on our LMS website, www.Lockermanms.org, located under student.
LMS School Based Health Center- Repost
It’s that time of the year! Get the shot, not the flu! Influenza vaccine should now be available at your primary care doctor’s office and at your local pharmacy. Please make the time for your child, and your family to get vaccine protection against the flu!
Other ways to help prevent the spread of flu:
- Wash your hands with hand sanitizer or soap and water – after using the bathroom, before and after eating, any time you cough or sneeze.
- Cover your cough or sneeze! – Use a tissue or at least cough inside your shirt to prevent spreading germs.
- If you’re sick with a fever, stay home! – It’s okay to treat a fever with rest and over the counter medication, but a fever for 2-3 days earns a trip to the doctor.
Your School Based Health Center (SBHC) through Choptank Community Health can see your child for a mild illness and can diagnose and treat the flu if needed. The SBHC at Lockerman Middle School is open Monday and Wednesday from 7:30 am until 3 pm and on Friday from 7:30 am until 11:30 am.
