In Case You Missed It:
Please remember not to send students to the office or an AP. If you or the student needs a break, use each other to bounce students. Counselor referrals are also another resource. The counselor referral form can be found under "for teachers" and "for parents and students" on our webpage. We are not always in our office and not able to stop everything to address problems. DO NOT call the SRO. We bring our SRO in if she is needed in situations. She is a law enforcement officer and has distinctive duties and responsibilities. An SRO may not be called by a teacher to handle a situation. Administration will involve the SRO if it is called for. Emergencies (fights, weapons, drugs) will be addressed immediately by calling the front office.
Students are not allowed to use the microwave in the cafeteria. This is for teacher use only. Students should not go behind the curtain unless they are going to working lunch. Working lunch students should use the ramp and the stairs to access and leave working lunch.
Crostini is a game changer in the classroom! No more wondering what your students are on when you are not standing over them! It is easy to set up and use. Robin Neville, SLMS ITF, has sent out emails and links to help you get up and going. I also appreciate her designating time last week to help teachers. I took advantage of the opportunity :O).
I know that no teacher enjoys covering classes during their planning. Please know that we, Gaye and I, do everything in our power to keep this from happening. We rearrange and make phone calls to subs. The increase in coverage lately is because of the increase in sickness (flu and stomach virus) going around. Teaching is the hardest job to be absent. Our students can't stay home when the teacher is out, so the teacher is expected to have something productive planned to do which someone else can follow. Educators also have to worry about how our kids will behave in our absence. The team approach that we have at SanLee helps a lot of the issues with student behaviors. Most substitutes leave here saying how much they appreciated the support they received and how well behaved our students were. This is important to ensure we retain quality substitutes. I appreciate everyone's flexibility and support for one another in times of need.
Kim Stuart will be moving to Fayetteville in June after her wedding. After much deliberating, she has decided to resign at the end of the year. This is bitter sweet for our Stallion family as we want her to be happy in her next chapter, but Kim has been a leader in our school since it's opening.
CONGRATULATIONS to Jamie Cox and family. They are expecting a new baby in October. Nora is excited to be a big sister!!

Statewide Tornado Drill
Mrs. Bridges will receive a call stating we are under a tornado watch. I will send a message using the Remind text message stating this. Admin, SRO, custodians, and front office staff will ensure all staff members have this information by going room to room saying, "Did you get the text message?"
Mrs. Bridges will get an additional call stating we are under a tornado warning. An announcement will be made over the intercom at that time. See below for procedures.
Mrs. Bridges will get a follow up call stating the tornado warning has been lifted. She will make an announcement over the intercom that the drill is over and to resume our normal schedule.
Please review procedures and expectations with students BEFORE Wednesday in all classrooms.
*Remember, we have students which have memories of being in a real tornado in Lee County. Just last year we spent several hours at school in and out of warnings. This may cause extreme fear in some. Please assure students of their safety in our school and report any extreme fears to our counselors.
TORNADO DRILL/EVENT PROCEDURE
PREPARATION:
1. Tornado Watch: Teachers will be notified through the in-school message plan when a TORNADO WATCH is in effect. Students will not be informed of the possible danger. A TORNADO WATCH suggests that conditions are favorable for dangerous weather and damaging winds; we want teachers to simply be aware of the situation but take no action at this point.
2. Tornado Warning: Should the National Weather Service issue a TORNADO WARNING we will proceed with our tornado evacuation plan. We will announce “There is a tornado warning--this means a tornado has been sighted nearby and that you should go at once to your safety area.” If you see or hear a tornado, don’t wait for the warning signal. Go to your designated area and have your students assume the safety position--on your knees and elbows, face down, with your hands over the back of your head.
*Turn off all lights and close all doors and you proceed to designated areas. Once in
designated areas, all students need to kneel on all fours facing the wall, and cover their
heads with their hands until the drill or emergency is over. Please remain as far away
from outside glass doors as possible, while still remaining in your designated area.
