Week of March 21-25

What A Fun Week!

Monday-Happy Spring! We are very excited to begin learning about spring and the changes this season brings. In math, we began a daily weather observation journal. In this journal, we will notice the changes of weather throughout the week. Today's weather was cloudy and cold. We predicted by Friday the weather will be warm. We shall wait and see. During reading, we began our third nine weeks reading assessment. The Rigby will be given throughout the next two weeks. During writing, we wrote about our weekend. Students are doing a great job of putting capitals at the beginning of sentences and a punctuation mark at the end of sentences. The most favorite punctuation marks tends to be the exclamation mark!

Tuesday-For book buddies, we went to the fifth graders classroom. It was so fun traveling to see our buddies and where they learn each day. Our students brought non-fiction books to read with their buddy. It is such an exciting time of the day. During literacy, students practiced reading and comprehending on Raz Kids by using the laptops. We also read a wonderful book called When Will It Be Spring? by Catherine Walters. Students completed an activity and had to draw what they heard from the story and write their favorite part.

Wednesday-In math, we continued with our daily observation weather journal. We have enjoyed noticing the changes of the weather this week. We check the weather first thing in the morning and write and draw about it. We also continued discussing spring and signs of spring. We are continuing with reading assessments throughout this week and next week.

Thursday-Our school watched an exciting assembly about West African storytelling, traditions, and culture. It was very engaging full of student and teacher volunteers! During literacy, we continued practicing on sounding out our words and recognizing sight words while reading. In the afternoon, we went on a Buddy Walk with fourth grade. We enjoy participating in this community building event.

Friday-What a fun Friday! We had student athletes from UVA visit Kindergarten to talk about health and wellness. This was a great culmination to our Health & Wellness Week. During literacy, we read our non-fiction Let's Find Out about spring. We enjoyed watching the video using the online resources. We also had our weekly guidance lesson. The five pillars of characters were reviewed.

Health & Wellness Week

This week our school celebrated health and wellness week. Each morning on the announcements, students participated in a movement performed by our fifth graders. In the cafeteria, trivia questions were answered to promote the importance of vegetables and fruits. In class, we continued with our Go Noodle and watched more of the "Think About It" videos. The students loved watching, listening, and thinking about these short videos. Feel free to check out all of the awesome sections of Go Noodle at home!
