A Message from Mrs. Caudill
Lead With Your Heart! ❤️ As we start to look to February, we are reminded of the power and impact of kindness and understanding. In fact February’s Habit of the month is Seek First To Understand and Then to be Understood.
Throughout the month of February, Amerman will be celebrating kindness and understanding in many different ways. We are inviting all families to join in celebrating these habits and traits. You are invited to create and share hearts with us in a digital way. You can make your heart as simple or as fancy as you’d like. Please think of a few ways that your child has followed the 7 Habits and write them on the heart. Then, take a picture of the Valentine you created.
All Bobcat Families are invited to share how their child is leading from the heart! Some of our teachers may be asking you to send in hearts which you can do in addition to sharing them digitally. All you need to do is take a photo of your child’s heart(s) and email them to Mrs. Vertrees. vertreesbl@northvilleschools.org. We plan to share images of these hearts on daily announcements. We ask that all posts and photos be submitted by Friday, February 11th!
Stay well,
Devon Caudill

new Contract Tracer/COVID reporter
As you know, the numbers in our area (and beyond) have continued to grow. Contract tracing/COVID reporting has become a job in and of itself. For this reason, each building has been assigned a new Contract Tracer/COVID reporter to help lighten the load. We'd like to extend a warm Bobcat welcome to Kristia Williams, our new Building Contract Tracer/COVID Reporter!
Kristia will work with Mrs. Caudill in this new role. Kristia is an Amerman and Hillside parent. S. Kristia is also one of our fabulous recess/lunch monitors, so she is already familiar with many of our students. We are grateful for Kristia's help, and we look forward to our partnership with her in the coming months.

Morning loop reminders for the new year:
We are seeing more volume in the loop and would like to keep the flow of traffic moving. Morning loop opens at 8:30am. Please form TWO lanes as you enter the parking lot, to keep cars off 8 Mile Rd. MERGE alternating lanes when you approach unloading/loading zone. Pull ALL THE WAY forward to the farthest available volunteer. Please have your child READY to exit the vehicle when the volunteer opens their door. Try to stay BUMPER TO BUMPER in the loop, don’t leave space between cars. Please have your student ready when you get to the loop. This is a quick drop off and go. All traffic must exit onto 8 Mile Road. All traffic must turn RIGHT onto 8 Mile Road. Additionally, you should not be using the south parking lot at the corner of 8 and Center as a loop drop off. We have had several near misses of children because cars backing up are not expecting a small person to be there unsupervised by an adult.

Russell Amerman tells our History
This is a picture of Russell Amerman, former Northville Superintendent which Amerman got its name from. I understand it is unusual, because he was always in a suit. Also attached an interview with him that shares some interesting Northville School History. Thank you to Julie Willerer for this great find!

IT'S TIME TO TEACH HABIT 4 - THINK WIN-WIN!
During the Month of January we will be working on Habit 4: Think Win-Win this month. Everyone can Win!
What this means: Think about others as well as yourself. Long-term relationships require mutual respect and mutual benefit.
“I make deposits into others’ Emotional Bank Accounts.”
“When conflict arises, I look for third alternatives.”
“I balance courage for getting what I want, with
consideration for what others want.”
How can I do this in my life?
1. Live by the Golden Rule- Treat others the same way you want them to treat you.
Great Books for Habit #4- Think Win Win
The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister
Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes
Lilly’s Big Day by Kevin Henkes
Alexander and the Wind-Up Mouse by Leo Lionni
Let’s Be Enemies by Janice May Udry
I Wanna Iguana by Karen Kaufman Orloff
