2023 Parent Satisfaction Survey
CSD Special Education Department
A Message From Frances Holt, Chief of State & Federal Programs
Hello Families,
It's survey season again and our department is excited to get your feedback on how the Special Education Department is performing at the school level.
The Special Education Parent Survey is a survey that helps the state to determine parents’ perception of the success of parent engagement relating to 10 specific areas of special education and the IEP process and is used as a means of improving services and results for children with disabilities. Georgia’s parent survey is available to all families of students with IEPs.
Families That Have More Than One Student with an IEP, Please Complete an Individual Survey for Each Student.
What data is taken from the survey?
How is the data used by the district/department?
When system percentages are lower than state percentages, these may be indicators of areas in need of systemic improvement or areas in need of improvement for a subgroup in our system. When system percentages are higher than state percentages, these may be indicators of systemic strengths or areas of strength for a subgroup in your system.
Does the data influence policy?
When we receive the results from the GA DOE, we receive one report per school and one showing the district-wide results altogether. Each year my team reviews the report at the district level and if we see an area with low scores we discuss it and identify what PL we need to do for teachers and administrators to help improve the ratings at their school. If we see that an area is particularly weak, we review our written procedures to see if those need to be revised or amended to help our teachers improve in those areas.
Additionally, the special education coordinators review the school specific reports with each principal to determine what activities need to occur at their school to either make improvements or highlight areas of strength that need to be continued.
We also use this data to help identify topics for special education parent nights, hosted by Cheryl Grant, to help educate parents on a variety of topics related to special education such as Transitions to post school settings.

CHERYL GRANT, CSD PARENT MENTOR
Parent Mentors are parents of children with disabilities hired by the district to support family engagement, as well as special education directors and other administrators, teachers, and support personnel within the district.
Parent mentors support other parents by providing information and resources to help their children succeed in school and transition from school to adult life. The mentors work to increase parent participation in IEP meetings, provide information related to improving reading and math, graduation rates, and help parents locate needed services and supports.
