News from the Nest
Week of 2/16-2/19
READING/SOCIAL STUDIES
Next week, we will begin our first content area unit in reading. Our unit will cover the social studies topic of Communities, Then and Now. We will be reading fiction, nonfiction, and poetry books to discover how and why communities change over time.
I will send home a letter with your child in their Friday Folder that explains what we will be covering in this unit and some ideas of ways you can work with your child on this topic at home.
WRITING
Next week we will begin our next unit in writing: Informational Writing. Students will choose a topic that they know a lot about such as an animal, a sport, an activity, etc. We will then go through the process of how to organize information into an informational book to teach others about that topic.
MATH
Next week we will work on equivalent fractions. Students will learn strategies to determine if two fractions are equal to each other.
There is information regarding the Greg Tang Valentine's Math Challenge in your child's Friday Folder. This is optional, but a great way for students to practice math over the long weekend.
IXL categories to practice:
Equivalent Fractions X.1-X.9
