The Vietnam Veterans Memorial
When it was Built and Who Designed It
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial was built on November 13,1982. A women named Maya Ying Lin was in Yale University when she entered a design contest for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Maya won the contest. Her design made an obtuse angle. The wall is 493ft with more than 58,000 names.
The Dedication Ceremony
On the day of the dedication it took 72 hours or 3 days to read all the names on the wall. The wall is made out of black granite.
The Suicide
On November 9, 2012 a women named Alice Franks was running a long distance race when she suddenly noticed where she was at. She was at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. She tried to stay away from that place because that's where her husband Vietnam Veteran committed suicide so she quit the race and left the memorial.
The End
The Vietnam Memorial is visited more often than The Washington Memorial and The Lincoln Memorial.
