News for Mrs. Idehenre's Third Grade
The Honeycomb
Math:
I was very proud of the hard work the students have done on multiplication. We had a 90% scoring A or High B on the test last week. Awesome job! This week in math, we will assess the properties of multiplication and begin patterns in mathematics using addition and multiplication. Properties of Multiplication will be assessed on Wednesday.
English Language Arts (ELA):
This week in grammar, we will assess abstract nouns and work on adjectives that compare (ie. taller, shorter, bigger, longer, etc.) You can help at home by finding ways to compare nouns at home.
In reading, we are finishing up learning about Informational text features. We have learned about the features and parts of nonfiction texts that can help us gather information. We will assess this next week. Students may come home with their reading notebooks to begin studying. Though it is important that students know what the features are, the assessment is more on using the features to find information. The assessment will be next week.
We are continuing informational writing and learning to research to become experts on a topic. Students have picked expert subtopics under the topic of landforms. Now we are using organizers to record our sources and take notes on our research.
Social Studies:
In social studies, we learned about how South Carolina had a diverse population. Students learned about Huguenots, Germans, Scotch-Irish, and European Jews. This week we are focusing on their contributions to the culture of South Carolina. We will assess this information on Thursday.
Science:
This week in science, we will assess water features on Tuesday. We are moving onto slow and rapid changes to our land. This is exciting because children will get to experience a volcanic eruption, learn about floods and landslides, and investigate the damage earthquakes can cause. We will also learn about weathering, erosion, and deposition.
General Reminders:
- Diamond Del - Diamond Del is coming to see our third graders on November 24th. We are very excited to learn about minerals and gems by actually mining for them. The cost of this field study is $7. Students can also buy souvenirs for a little more.
