Week of 10/25/21 - 10/29/21
Letter from Principal Nelson
This may be the most exciting week of the year for your student here in the hallowed halls of Smallville, so make sure you and yours are in the know.
First things first, Small-o-ween is back and we can’t wait to let our students’ Halloween spirit shine by joining Student Council in the fun of Halloween Spirit Week. Next week, we will be dressing up each day we inch closer and closer to our monster mash known as Small-o-ween. Monday is wacky hair day. Break out your wigs, headbands, and dye to show off your spooky locks. Tuesday is Halloween t-shirt day so dig out that awesome t-shirt you only wear this time of year or make your own. Do you have a witch hat or perhaps a Halloween beanie? Wear them on Wednesday for Halloween hat day. Come to school on Thursday in your Halloween-themed PJs to learn while staying super comfy and don't forget that you may wear your school-appropriate Halloween costume to class AND to Small-o-ween next Friday. As for what does school-appropriate means, basically, we will not allow any look-a-like weapons of any sort nor are our students allowed to wear masks. Except of course for the surgical masks, we wear each and every day to help stop the spread of Covid. However, we do want to encourage them to be creative as can be with their masks and incorporate it into their costume.
Date: Oct 29, 4-5:30 (All grade levels at the same time)
Where: Clint Small backyard(courtyard)
How: Buy a wristband for 5$ in the Cafeteria during lunch starting Monday, Oct 25.
-Yes, you can wear a costume on Friday to school - It must be school appropriate

Día de los Muertos: Small's DL Program is hosting their Día de los muertos event 'Celebrating Life with the Day of the Dead' on Saturday, October 30th from 6 to 9 pm in Small's 'backyard'. Families can reserve a table for the event via the Google Form the program recently sent out, or by emailing Mr. Hopkins with the Dual Language Program. Bring your own food for the event and we will provide hot Cocoa and Pan de Muerto!
HB 4545 and Accelerated Instruction: If you received a Google Form from us about Accelerated Instruction and small groups, please make sure to complete the form and send it our way. We are ready to get this plan and gear and need to know the vital piece of information before we start.
Quarantining and Long Absences: Just a reminder that when your student is on quarantine or absent for a long stretch of time for other reasons, have h/her email their teachers for each class for assignments. Students will still be expected to log into BLEND and complete any work they are able to, but they’ll also need to follow up with their teacher. Also, remember that teachers can be available for Zoom tutoring sessions after school if the need arises.
Thanks for reading and as per usual, if you have any questions, concerns, or even kudos, be sure to let me know.
