Ohlone
May 13, 2020
Hello, Ohlone!
The world news is ever evolving. It can feel unsettling when we are in charge of the future of children. We are planning. We are brainstorming. We are reflecting on the practices of other countries. We are pulling teachers together to collaborate. We are asking you to share your perspective and ideas about re-opening at the next Backstage with the Superintendent with Dr. Austin on May 18th at 5:30pm.
Given the lack of uncertainty, we are preparing for three possible scenarios in the fall. The first and least likely scenario involves opening school as usual, with no restrictions. Highly unlikely. The second and most likely scenario involves opening school with distancing regulations, a blended learning approach (some online, some in-person), and a modified schedule. The third, least desirable but possible option is to re-open with a 100% online learning program.
The comfort in all this is that we want the same thing. We want students to feel safe, secure, cared for, and inspired as learners. Our teachers and staff have put forth heroic efforts toward providing a meaningful learning environment where students feel connected and seen. With very little time and a ton of resources to wade through, they are pulling off an incredible feat.
I am looking forward to a few Ohlone events to close out the year! Spring Fling premiers this Sunday, May 17th. We are planning a Virtual Promotion for our 5th graders. John and I are getting our Book of the Shelter-in-Place scheduled. We've got some fun on the horizon!
I am working on a pick-up schedule for student materials and belongings. It will be drive-through, everybody! More to come. Have a wonderful rest of your week!
