Dear Families,
In early October, I shared with you our first extended Social Emotional Learning lesson. Below are links to our second lesson. The goal of the second lesson, which has been adjusted to meet the developmental ages of the students, is a basic introduction to self and social awareness and the concept of community and belonging. Students will use literature and stories to expand their understanding of these concepts. The links below are for your reference and so that you can support conversations at home if you choose to.

Wait until 8th
The Wait Until 8th pledge empowers parents to rally together locally
to delay giving children a smartphone until at least 8th grade.
Smartphones are widespread in elementary and middle school because of unrealistic social pressure and expectations to have one, but it doesn’t need to be that way. By banding together, this will decrease the pressure felt by kids and parents alike over kids having a smartphone.

Bren Bataclan-Inspired Paintings
Laura Mellick's Freeman Kennedy students have created these amazing paintings based on Bren Bataclan's artwork. Bren is the artist who painted the mural in the cafeteria. The students really enjoy seeing all of their artwork displayed throughout the hallways and the students enjoy.
