Education Go Get IT Week
We are celebrating Higher Education Week September 21st – 25th!
Teachers will concentrate on the College/University represented by each individual classroom. Note: Your classroom designation is the flag hanging outside your door.
We are creating a college going culture with our students at Marcus and that begins with class discussions.
This takes a TEAM! The effort starts HERE…in elementary school.
Monday
Research the designated College/University flag outside your door! Take notes, find the location and map it out, discuss the size, view pictures of the university, tie it in to what you’re already planning in your lesson plans. You can learn about the type of degrees offered at your College/University. Setting goals… Having dreams… What I Want to Be When I Grow Up… You can make this a journal activity, an anchor chart, etc.
Tuesday & Wednesday
Students/teacher can write a letter or email to your designated College/University sharing that your classroom is representing their College/University. You can also request information from them to share with your class-- i.e. brochures, cd’s of the campus, pennants, pencils, etc. These are great door decorating items! Your College/University will be very happy to hear from you, as you are representing their school. You can contact the Admissions Department to seek information on how to create a College Going Culture and Environment for your students.
Thursday
Listen to your College/University fight song! Take a few moments to share your flags/University class fight song. You might want to get the written words so you can practice for the rest of the year. Make it fun!! Do a vocabulary lesson with it! Maybe a journal writing entry! Start calling your class “The Gators” for FSU or “The Sooners” for OU. We want them to start identifying with your class’ College/University!
