President's Corner by Cree Sanford
Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break. We have a lot of fun events taking place during the second semester at Copeland.
Coming up this semester, in February, 3rd grade will attend a field trip to see a play by some of our former Copeland Colts at Langham Creek HS on February 1st. We will have our very first Father/Daughter dance on Saturday, February 17th! Dads come dressed to impress and be ready to dance with the sweetest little princesses that you know! Our Terrific Third Graders will have their music show on February 13th . We have some very talented students here at Copeland so don’t miss it! We will have our Spring semester fundraiser, Boosterthon FunRun, in March , and the First Graders music show in April and numerous 5th grade activities in May.
I’d like to welcome Donna Schultz to the executive PTO board! She will be our new Fundraiser Chair for the rest of this year. Many thank you’s to Miranda Daniells for her service and dedication.
Thank you so much to our volunteers for the time and energy that you spend helping to make Copeland a great school. Your contribution, no matter how big or how small it may be, really does make a difference. If you haven’t had an opportunity to volunteer, there are numerous events during the second half of the year that require a lot of volunteers. The quickest way to get involved is to contact your Homeroom Coordinator.
Thanks again for all you do for our school! Please contact me cree410@yahoo.com if you have any questions regarding PTO.

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer Activities
We need volunteers and helpers year round and there are plenty of opportunities. You can learn about SRC (Science Resource Center), which is an excellent resource not only for the students, but for parents too. If you are able to volunteer for this, I promise you will learn something too! Please contact our SRC Chair Selina Sauceda at selina.sauceda@gmail.com for more info.
The library always needs volunteers, as do art and music. Please let me know if you want more information.
If you have any questions or comments regarding our VIPS program or would like to volunteer, please contact me at 713-829-0638 or mmcgah@gmail.com.
The Garden by Tracy Reynolds
Garden
The 3rd gardeners got to "play" with worms last week. Each class got to make their own compost bin with worms. The students added paper, dead leaves and radish leaves from the garden. Each class is responsible for watering and feeding their bins. In a few weeks the students will get to see how the dirt and worms changed. The dirt and worm will be put into the garden to help feed our plants. As always parents are welcomed to help in the garden on garden days and we always need help watering. Thank you so much Howard LeFleur and Yelena Bolotina for watering during the Christmas break. The next garden day is January 25.
