Roberts Middle School
2017-2018 Final Edition
Dear Roberts,
The rate of change in education is fast and furious. This is why it is important for us not to be on the sidelines as educators. As educators, we can’t keep our heads down anymore. We have to be riding the wave of the best instructional practices to prepare our students.
Nokia owned the cell phone business. Nokia had touch screen technology in their labs before Apple and decided in their brilliance that the flip phone will be fine. Today, Nokia is no longer the leader in the communication space. We must be willing to reinvent, then disrupt education based on what is needed for our students' success.
This summer, my desire for you is to be information hungry. Look for recourses this summer that will help you get an accurate representation of the objective truth of education. I hope that you go to several professional developments and read books on best practices and leadership. To be a change agent we must be constantly evolving as educational disruptors.
What do I do in the summer? I intentionally grow by asking myself a series of questions. These are the questions I ask myself to grow as an educational leader: How sure am I about this? What information do I have? What information am I missing? Why might I be wrong? What do others know that I don’t know? This is why I read books in the summer. This is why I hangout with my friends outside of education.
Who knows how much time we all have at Roberts. The time we do have here, I hope that this place makes you a better person. Thank you for making an impact on my life. By demonstrating best practices and showing love to our kids, you allowed transformation to happen at Roberts. Please rest, recover, and enjoy your summer.
