Message From Principal Engdall
Wow Shaw Montessori, we made it through week 1!
It was a week of ups and downs and all arounds for all of us! Lots of learning occurred in the areas of navigation, expectations, digital citizenship and classroom structure! The younger children are intrigued with the mute, the emoji and the chat buttons---what power! The older children are upright—mostly, and are showing their responsible side but still trying to hide behind that “video off screen!” Don’t worry, we know what is going on back there and are calling them back to the light.
Thank you for all of the grace, gratitude and kindness you have extended to our staff and one another. Many times we were amazed at how well the children did in areas we thought would be a struggle and how quickly they adapted and overcame those challenges. The phenomenal amount of preparation work that the teachers have done to take a holistic, beautiful educational model and transport it to a computer is a testament of love on display this week. I believe in this interim stage of learning and instruction, after what we have witnessed this week, that the children are going to be just fine.
As we continue to learn and grow together I want you to remember we are here in the spirit of service to child and to one another. Communication is critical. If you sense that your child is becoming fatigued with any portion of this virtual platform, please, talk with their teacher, Ms. (Hawkins) Collier or me. In real time/real person we make so many modifications for our learners, they are just a part of our day and our work. With the physical realm only seen through a screen, we might miss some crucial indicators. We welcome the opportunity to work through these together.
Keep Shining Stars,
Principal Engdall

Message From Laura Hildwein
WE DID IT! We have gotten through the first week of online school. There have been many ups and downs, but by working together we have done a great job!
I wanted to share a few tips with you about having your child succeed at online learning.
Tip #1 Make school a priority. While we may not be in the building all kinds of new learning going on.
Tip #2 Reduce Distraction. Make sure your child has a quiet place to work and has all materials gathered in one location. If you have multiple learners, or are working from home yourself, headphones might be a good option.
Tip #3 Consistent Schedule. Have a bedtime, morning routine and a school schedule. Schedule in breaks and time for self-care each day.
Tip #4 Provide positive feedback. Give praise to your child for their effort to focus online, for their attempts to complete academics. It will not be perfect, but remember to praise attempts and effort.
Tip #5 Be flexible. Adjust the schedule as needed. Work with your child on difficult tasks. If you are not able to complete everything, don’t be hard on yourself. We are asking for best effort not perfection.
Tip #6 Ask for Help. We are all learning how to navigate zoom and google classrooms. If you need help, please reach out to school staff for support.
Have a great week!
