The School Board swore in board members who are starting new terms and welcomed new incoming Board member Carol Facchiano. David Kennedy was elected President and Lisa Roth as Vice President.
Student and Board Recognition
Master School Board Director Robert Bold received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA) for his long-term service and contributions to the School Board and his commitment to public education. He will be added to the “PSBA Honor Roll of School Board Service.”
PHS Principal Jim Moniz recognized eight National Merit Semifinalists and sixteen Commended Students. Eight PHS Students selected as 2016 National Merit Semifinalists are: Kristen Hickey, Channing Hou, Marali Kalra, Nicolas Kshatri, Marlon Lowe, Kristina Shum, Claire Tang and Benjamin Trinkle. Sixteen PHS Students named National Merit Commended Students are: Audrey K. Blizard, William T. Campbell, Yousef M. Elzalabany, Taylor R. Faust, Alisha S. Ghai, Esha R, Kadakia, Lois Kim, Mitchell V. Kresge, Elizabeth S. Matta, Shaun M. Mchugh, Amy N. Miller, Panini C. Pandya, Stephanie E. Shara, Rachel A. Sloan, Shika Veera, and Daniel A. Zahn.
PHS Choral Director Frank Anonia recognized Lisa Stein, a student who is part of the National Association for Music Education’s All National Honors Chorus.
SMS Principal Michelle Minotti and Science teacher Susan Stern recognized Sriyaa Suresh who was one of 30 Finalists in the 5th Annual Broadcom MASTERS®– a national, prestigious STEM competition for middle school students.
Rob Cohen reported that the Parkland Community Library is closed Nov 30 - Jan 9 for renovations. There is a link on the Parkland Library website that will show renovation progress as it occurs.
Everyone welcomed Carol Facchiano to the School Board and congratulated David and Lisa in their new positions as President and Vice President.
The Board and Mr. Sniscak noted that change and redistricting is never easy, but that our outstanding, caring staff will make every effort to make transitions for students and families a welcoming, positive experience. They thanked Dr. Troutman and Mr. Sniscak for their efforts in communicating with the public the past few weeks about the redistricting plans as questions and concerns were raised by community members.
Carol Facchiano said she is honored to represent this District and that she is passionate about education and she is excited to be part of this team.
Mr. Sniscak said he is excited about the new team of 10 and that he looks forward to working with everyone. He mentioned that senior citizen dinners will take place on Dec. 10 and 17th from 5:30 - 6:30 PM at PHS.
