December 2019
Principal's Message
Welcome to December! It is the holiday season and this is a fitting time for all of us to teach our students to be thankful and show them the value of generosity and kindness. This is also the month that we have more days out of school. Parents, use this time to bond with your children. There are many ways that we can teach our kids the literacy and math skills that they need to acquire and master. We can read with them, or share wonderful stories with them. We can use number and measurements when we prepare ingredients to cook our favorite dish. There are many resources that the school offers to help your child improve in reading and math. The use of I-Ready, or Reflex at home during our time off will benefit your child. These program will assist your child to maintain academic skills. Encourage your children to write “thank-you” notes to their family members and friends. Keeping a journal of winter adventures will improve their writing skills. Again, the best way to teach our kids is by example. We need to continue nurturing and sharpening their brains in order for them to be ready when they return. We appreciate and thank you for your continued support in all our endeavors to ensure your child’s academic success.
Now that the winter months are upon us, please be sure your child is dressed appropriately for cold weather. Most days we go outside for recess and it is important that they come to school with a coat. Please consider labeling hats, coats, and gloves with your child’s name.
In the event that school is delayed, or cancelled due to inclement weather the district’s automated system will call each home. It is imperative that we have your most current contact information.
Earlier this year we sent home a form about unplanned early dismissals. Remember that The Shack and Boys and Girls Club will not be in operation on these days.
Along with the winter months come cold weather, which means we could have an Arctic Academy Day. An Arctic Academy Day is where students stay home and work on activities and assignments while teachers report to work. You can find more information about Arctic Academy here. On an Arctic Academy Day a school messenger call will be sent out to homes and we will be advertising on Twitter, Facebook, and our web-page.
