BHS/AHS Weekly Update
Week of January 15th
Update Letter
Hello Everyone --
I hope that this weekend finds all or you relaxing and enjoying time together. First, a quick reminder that we do not have practice this Monday. The pools are closed. Please enjoy an extra day together. With a short week we will work on continuing to grow and better our skills.
Congratulations go to the BHS Women's Team as they tied Sunset High School in our meet on the 8th. We are still waiting for the scores for the meet against Mountainside. They have yet to get their information turned in.
To help out keeping everyone safe, we have purchased baggies for all of our swimmers to keep masks in at the swim meets, as well as microfiber towels for each swimmer to keep in their baggie at swim meets. We have also purchased baskets to keep by the blocks so that everything is kept in one place.
As you are aware, until further notice there are no spectators allowed for swim meets and practices until further notice. We are working on live stream options for those who have not volunteered. We are hoping that we will be able to have spectators at the district swim meet.
Schedule for the week is found below. Please keep in mind, in order to again keep our swimmers as COVID free as possible, all swimmers will not be using the locker room at swim meets. All swimmers must arrive ready to warm up immediately. Please bring clothing to throw on and go as soon as the meet ends. Thank you parents for being at the pool ready to pick your swimmers up. BHS parents should be at the 50 meter between 6:45pm for pick up. AHS parents should arrive no later than 9:30pm. As soon as swimmers finish with the meet and clean up they will head straight out. These pick up times are extremely important.
- Volunteers for Meets -- Due to the current surge of COVID our parents that are healthcare workers are being asked to cover extra shifts and this has added a need to our Timer needs for all BHS swim meets -- We have added a few more slots to our volunteer base so please look it is one way to be able to watch our swimmers since there are no spectators allowed. Please consider signing up. -- We will train you for everything needed.

Reminders:
- On another important note, morning swimmers should be at the pool ready to get in the water by 5:30am but must arrive no later than 5:45am. For safety reasons, the pool doors need to be locked at that time. If you are unable to make it by 5:45 please do not come to practice that morning. We do not want swimmers waiting outside in the dark for someone to let them in. We want everyone to be safe. Be sure to email me so that I know why you have missed. We can try to arrange a make-up that afternoon.
- Swim Meet Schedule is attached at the bottom- ALL MEETS WILL BE HELD AT THE THPRD AQUATIC CENTER
- Full Water Bottle poolside is mandatory to practice - No water bottle; No practice
- Grade Checks: Please check your grades and work on keeping all of your grades up. You must be passing at least five classes to compete.
- Due to Covid and the restrictions, it is imperative that if a swimmer is sick in any way, that they notify us and please do not attend practice. We want to be able to keep everyone healthy and strong

First - BHS dues to healthcare workers being called in for extra shifts, we have one opening for a timer at each meet. That being said, we are also still looking for announcers, head timers and if certified, stroke and turn - please consider helping us out. We will train you and they are the best seats in the house.
Thank you to everyone who has signed up so far. Please be sure to get your info into the Beaverton Volunteer site. You can go ahead and sign up to time while waiting for Beaverton.
- Swim Meet Volunteers: To volunteer at the swim meets, etc... You must sign up through the district volunteer background check. Even if you have done so prior it is required again this year and it requires any volunteer to be COVID19 vaccinated and the vaccination card uploaded onto the system. We are required to make sure that every volunteer is cleared through this system. We thank you in advance for your understanding and help as we continue to keep exposure to COVID 19 minimized. the link for volunteer sign up with district is: https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/communications-community-involvement/volunteer

We are looking for six timers from our school. We also have slots that are not school specific and they include certified official jobs including, referee, starter and stroke and turn judges. As well as a couple of runners and a head timer. Please consider signing up to help make our season so successful. Besides, you get the best seats in the house. We will train you, it is easy to do. please be sure to sign up under our school only for the timing positions. Inclement Weather Reminders
Due to the early time of our practice, we have to make decisions based on what we think may happen. I generally make a decision on the side of caution. Please always check your emails for information on possible cancellation of practice. I try to make that decision by 8pm the night before. If we cancel practice in the morning, we will have swimmers attend in the afternoon as long as there is school. If the district cancels school and all after school activities, we will follow their policy.
PLEASE PLEASE IF IN DOUBT; WAIT IT OUT. EVERYONE'S SAFETY IS OUR FIRST PRIORITY. WITH OUR VARYING TOPOGRAPHY I AM NOT ALWAYS AWARE OF WHAT IS HAPPENING IN YOUR NECK OF THE WOOD.
