Why the Polish came

They came to America because of religious reasons , better jobs, and better farmland.They came to America for religious reasons because they wanted to pray when ever they wanted. They came to America for better jobs because in Poland they did not pay well.


One of their traditions is Fat Thursday. This is a day that the people eat all sorts of different foods. Some of the foods are Angel Wings, Polish doughnuts.They also celebrate Easter. When it's Easter they make Easter Eggs. Also when it's Easter they have a big feast.

1.They have a dance called the polka. 2.Here are some jobs when they came to America, they had to work in textile mills for making clothing , they also work in slaughterhouses where they cut meat . 3.When they were on they ship , it was hard because some got sick and some died. 4. And they make traditional clothing for holidays.



3 cups of flower

1/4 tsp of salt

4 egg yolks

3/4 pt of sour cream or 1 1/2 cup

Sift flour into a mound on pastry board. Add salt, egg yolks and cream. Knead until all flour is taken up. Flour the board well and take about 1/3 of the dough mixture and roll out to 1/8 inch thickness; cut into 4-5 inch squares. Fill squares and pinch opposite corners and seal. Place in boiling water, reduce to a simmer and cook for 5-8 minutes or until pierogi come to the top. Take out.

Melt some butter in a fry pan and brown the pierogi, serve warm.

(Fillings of pierogi can be cheese, potato, sauerkraut or any fruit)
