Benefits of Unplugging / Beneficios de Desenchufarse
Having a healthy relationship with technology is an important part of today’s world, but how do you know if you need to unplug? Technology has proven to be beneficial when sharing information and connecting individuals around the world etc., however, studies have shown that there are more benefits to unplugging and limiting screen time. Taking some time away from electronics reduces stress, which allows your brain and body to recover from your day at work or school, and helps you sleep and focus better. Most importantly, increasing your time away from your electronics allows you to be present and appreciate the conversations and individuals around you.
Keep in mind, that for some, unplugging may mean binge watching the latest Netflix tv show, or spending hours on the video games or social media. However, truly unplugging from technology doesn’t just mean turning off your smartphone, it also means turning off the television, powering down your computer and shutting down any other electronic device.
I challenge you to schedule some time during the week to be present in the moment without any electronic device(s). Spend some uninterrupted quality time with a loved one or friend. Let’s continue to encourage each other to unplug and be more present, D100 families.

We are excited to announce that the Freedom Middle School library is opening for in-person browsing and circulation. The library model will be different from years past, accommodating Covid-19 mitigations and modeling the district's step-by-step approach. Initially, in-person visits will be limited to hybrid learning students on their days of attendance. This allows us to do all appropriate health screenings efficiently. Students who are in hybrid learning should talk to their teachers to sign up for library visits.
Additionally, all students (hybrid and remote) may still use the library catalog (destiny.bsd100.org) to choose books online. Books held online by hybrid learning students will be delivered to the student's Excel teacher. Books held online by remote learning students will continue to be available at the front of the school for pick up.
Students visiting the library in-person will be expected to follow the same rules as in the classroom. These rules include social distancing, hand sanitizing when entering the room, mask wearing, etc.
