Math Updates
In Math this week, we wrapped up Unit 2 and took our assessment. We ended the week beginning Unit 3...Adding, Adding, Adding...and subtracting, too! :)
We will be teaching them various strategies for these math concepts, however, we will be urging them to use traditional addition.
Building a READING LIFE
In Reading this week, we began our FUN Mystery unit!! The students received Mystery books for their books boxes, and were assigned book clubs to read and explore their mysteries together. We discussed how to figure out what the mystery is, as well as trying to determine who will be the crime solver. We also talked about how a mystery reader always tries to figure out the mystery before the crime solver!
The first few chapters of our new read aloud, The Absent Author are under our belt and the kiddos are begging for more!
Stay tuned...
Word Study
Word Study tests will be on Friday, October 26th.
Monday nights- Students are to sort their words and record them in their notebooks. They are to also record their discovery or rule for the week.
Tuesday and Wednesday nights- Students should sort their words and read them as they sort. They can practice writing them on paper, whiteboards, or typing them. NO WRITTEN homework is required on these nights.
Thursday nights- Students are to ask an adult to quiz them on their words. They write the headers and then record the words as they are called out. The adult should use the notebook to correct the sort and ask the student to practice any words that were spelled incorrectly. This can be done on the back of the homework sheet. This paper should then be returned to school Friday morning.
Friday- there will be a test given
Writing long & strong
This week in Writing, we finished editing our Narrative pieces and have begun publishing our final copies. We are teaching the students how to write on lined paper properly, align paragraphs, and stay within the pink lines ;). They are working very hard!
