Chester Elementary School
February 8, 2019
Greetings Parents!
We appreciate your understanding this week when we had to cancel school Monday and Tuesday. We are getting final confirmation, but it appears we will be making up these days on Friday, April 12 (before our April break) and Friday, May 24 (before Memorial Day weekend).
As I've shared previously, Superintendent Oestreich starts at about 4:30 am checking weather reports, talking to transportation, maintenance operations, Cal-Trans and calling her contacts in all 4 attendance areas. A decision is made for each attendance area. She then informs principals by 5:30 am if we need to call a 2 hour delay or cancel school in any of the attendance areas. As principals, we then notify staff and our families via our Aeries communication system. The Aeries system will send an email, text and phone message. We also put an announcement on our Facebook page.
Please note, if we are operating school on normal start times. I will not send out a message so if you don't get a phone call, text or email, assume it's a normal school day at CES.
If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions to improve our communication, delay or closure procedures, please share. Thanks!

Kindness Ninja Coming to CES Tuesday, February 26, 9:15 am!
We are SUPER EXCITED to announce that our school is going to be taking on a massive kindness challenge and its launching with an assembly on February 26 at 9:15 am in the CES gym . We’d love to invite our parents to join us!
THE CHALLENGE = KINDNESS EXPLOSION
The entire student body will be challenged to carry-out acts of kindness in the halls, classrooms, at home and throughout the community. Each student will receive a kindness challenge so don’t be shocked if you see a little more Kindness around the house .
Challenge #2 – Global Impact
During the assembly, students will hear stories, see pictures and watch videos of kids their own age in Kenya. But one big difference, is that these children have never worn a pair of shoes in their life! We are going to challenge the entire school to collect gently used sneakers that will be sent to needy children and families around the globe. So go throughout your closet to see if you have any sneakers you don’t wear anymore. (also ask your friends, family and neighbors!) Important – we are only collecting sneakers. Please don’t bring boots, flip-flops, slippers, etc.
To help us make an even bigger impact, we want to ask you to engage in conversation with your family about the subject of Kindness. Ask them about what they’ve done, acknowledge what they do, and encourage the simple life skill of Kindness.
