Maple Grove Fox Report

May 10, 2023

PRINCIPAL'S CORNER

We are just a few weeks to wrapping up the end of the 2022-2023 school year but we have lots going on before we do that! From wrapping up our end of the year assessments, field trips, celebrations, and appreciations we have a full packed May. Families, I truly have appreciated having each and everyone of you and your children a part of our Maple Grove Family! Saying you love coming to your job each day is not something everyone can say, but I can definitely say I LOVE coming to my job each day! That is because you the wonderful supportive families, the respectful and motiviated learners, and the exceptially hard working and caring staff! It's the people that make Maple Grove Charter School an amazing place to learn, grow, and work...THANK YOU!

Report Cards

Report cards will be available via Infinite Campus after May 30. Directions on how to view them will be available. The supply lists will also be available on our website. If you have a change of address over the summer or will not be attending next year please email me at rhanson@athen1.org so we can update our summer mailings. Thank you!

Last Day of School

As you are already aware we have added 5 min onto our day and turned the last day, May 26th, into a full day. Although, sticking with tradition we are offering our parents to come join us for lunch that day and you can choose to take your child home with you at that time, if you want. Please just send back the picnic form by this Friday, May 12th so we can get an accurate count for lunch and planning for the day.

Governance Board Openings

Maple Grove Charter School has three open positions on the Governance Board available! This is a great opportunity to get involved in our school! Members promote and advance Maple Grove's mission, oversee the goals of the charter contract and work with school leadership to support staff and students.

If you're interested or want to learn more, email your resume and letter of intent to Jasmin Skerven at jwade@athens1.org. Application materials are due by Thursday, June 1.

Sock Hop

We danced our socks off! It was so much fun and we had a great turnout! Thank you to all of our parent and staff volunteers that help make this night possible. A big shout out to our Student Council Advisor, Mrs. Zondlo, and our student council members for putting on and organizing such a fun event! Can't wait to do it again next year!

Pancake Breakfast

Thank you to all our volunteers who helped serve, cook, set up, clean up, put raffle baskets together, those that donated syrup and/or raffle prizes, and those that came to enjoy the delicious pancake breakfast. It was a great event! I enjoyed meeting so many more families and community members from both Athens and Hamburg. We served 461 adults this year! It was an amazing team effort and we are so grateful for all who helped to make this event possible.

Sap

Our taps were pulled on Friday, April 14. It was a fantastic sap season with lots of learning and experiences! We collected a total of 11,175 gallons of sap which was about 9,100 more gallons than last year! The 5th grade learners are running a fundraiser and learning things around budget, marketing, and profit. Congratulations to Athaliah West-Hanson for creating the design on the jars. Thank you to everyone who purchased maple syrup, we made over 60 gallons of sap!

READING INCENTIVE

We celebrated our March reading incentive last week Thursday. It was a great incentive where we tied in stewardship and environment all together. Our learners who reached their personal monthly reading goal painted and designed bird feeders that will hang right outside our school on the tree line next to parent pick-up/ drop-off. That way learners can see all the birds right out their classroom windows. They will then be sent home before the end of the year.

Track & Field

Some of our learners participated in a track and field day in Edgar! It was a great day!

Stewardship Day

MGCS had a Stewardship Day on April 25th. Staff and learners were able to use Stewardship around the school grounds to better improve their schools environment.

Fired Up To Read Assembly

Our Fired Up To Read Assembly will be Friday, May 19th. The bike that has been on display in the gym will be given away to a special reader. The firefighters are hoping to bring pizza and a possible firetruck for our learners!

Clean-Up Crew

We had a clean-up crew get together a couple weekends ago to be good stewards of our environment and community. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for this event and to Ms. Barrick for organizing it!
