Math Updates....
Crystal Udall (district math coach) and I met for awhile on Thursday and we have come up with a plan to start on some math professional development.
From now until the end of the year, we will have a district math coach on campus one day a week. They will be available to help lesson plan, ask questions, plan assessments, model lessons, observe, etc. It will be so nice to have some extra hands on campus that have a passion for math.
Additionally, Crystal will be on campus doing some PD for grade levels in December. GPS is "picking up the tab" for whole day subs so that she can do training on standards and vertical articulation in math.
12/5-Kindergarten
12/10-First, second, and third
12/11-Fourth, fifth, and sixth
We felt that it was critical that we get these trainings in before January so that we could "hit the ground running" in the new year.
Substitute Issues....
- 11/13-K/1 Planning
- 11/14-2/3 Planning
- 11/15-COPE/5 Planning
- 11/27-4/6 Planning
- 12/7-Wendy Peterson Trainings for 3-6
- 12/5-Kindergarten Math
- 12/10-First, Second, Third Math
- 12/11-Fourth, Fifth, Sixth Math
GaGa Ball...
To ensure everyone understands the rules and we are not developing bad habits, I would prefer students not play unless I am out there for a bit. I will let you know when I feel confident in their understanding of the rules.
Additionally, under no circumstances should the students be playing with a soccer, playground, or basketball ball.

Planning Time Subs....
Activity #1 (mandatory)-I would like each team to analyze an assessment that they have used this year (or are going to use). Look at the assessment in accordance with the standard. What DOK level is the standard written for? What level should it be assessed? Look at the assessment and determine if it matches. Please turn in the assessment with these questions analyzed (doesn't have to be long, but want to ensure that teams are reflecting/analyzing their assessment practices).
Once that is completed, the remainder of your time should be used like a PLC meeting. This is not the time to discuss field trips, holiday parties, etc.
Teams should take the time to design assessments, plan intervention/enrichment, analyze student data, unpack standards, curriculum map, analyze your text in relationship to your standards, etc. Remember that everything should point back to one of the "Four Critical Questions."
Weekly Reflection....
Before Wednesday, I really thought that DOK and Bloom's were synonyms. It never dawned on me that one had to do with the assessment while the other was referring to cognitive load.
This week's reflection is mostly about Wednesday's PD:
If I am your evaluator, this should be completed prior to Friday, so that I can respond to each of you.
