Get ready to SMILE and say "cheese"! Picture day is coming to Hawthorne School. All students will get their photo taken by our photographer from Lifetouch, in the morning on August 31, and parents will have the option to purchase photos; information will go home in backpacks.

Homework Club and Snack Schedule

Breakfast and Lunch Menu and Prices

Did you know your child can purchase breakfast and lunch at school? If your child would like to eat breakfast at school, please line up at Door 14 at 8:50 a.m. Breakfast is served in the Multi-Purpose room, and students are dismissed to their classrooms at 9:05 a.m. All students are welcomed to purchase breakfast and lunch!


In order to comply with Paid Lunch Equity (PLE) requirements for the National School Lunch Program, District 200 has increased the paid student lunch price from $2.65 to $2.75 effective with the 2018-2019 school year. Reduced-priced lunch remains at $.40; Paid Breakfast price remains at $1.25; Reduced-priced breakfast remains at $.30. To pay for food service, send cash or a check to school (made payable to: CUSD200) or pay online, using the My School Bucks website.


These prices are reflected on the menus and have been posted under Food Service on the District website.

New After School Clubs at Hawthorne!

We are offering 2 after school clubs this fall! Cooking Club will be offered on Mondays after school, and Whiffle Ball (it's like baseball!) will be offered on Tuesdays after school.


Whiffle Ball

Who: Students in grades 3-5

When: Tuesdays, 9/11, 9/18, 9/25, 10/2 at 3:40-4:40 p.m.

Where: Hawthorne Gym

To register: Send registration form and payment to school office.


Sticky Fingers Cooking

Who: All grades

When: Mondays, 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, 10/15 at 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Where: The Staff Center at Hawthorne School

Before and After School Care

Our school district offers before and after school care, called the BASP program. All information for this program can be found on the website, but here are a few details:


  • Care is provided in our school gym from 7:00 - 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 - 6:00 p.m.
  • Cost is $9.50 per session, or $19.00 per day for morning and afternoon care.
  • You can choose morning, afternoon, or both sessions.

We will have a new BASP director at Hawthorne this year, and the position will be filled soon. Susan Clark, from our district office, will be filling in, and she can be reached at: susan.clark@cusd200.org.

Ice Cream Social is tonight

Our PTA Ice Cream Social will be Friday, August 24th at 6:30 p.m. on the playground and in the gym. This is a free event for all Hawthorne families! Mark your calendars for this fun back to school gathering.

Lunch hour is 12:00-1:00

The lunch hour for students (and staff) will be 12:00-1:00 this year. (This is a change from last year, which was 12:15-1:15.)

12:30-1:00: All Day Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd graders have recess


12:00-12:30: 3rd, 4th, 5th graders have recess

Hawthorne School

Parents are welcome to come to our school to learn more about teaching, learning, and curriculum at Hawthorne School. Classroom teachers will present two times so that parents who have more than one child can attend more than one session. The same information will be presented during both sessions.

7:00 p.m. Classroom teacher presentation, in your child's classroom and Principal presentation in the gym
