Summer Institute Description:

Washington Educational Service Districts in partnership with Central Washington University would like to invite you to Ellensburg, Washington to attend a three-day institute, “Mathematical Success for All Students”.

Immerse yourself in professional development devoted to specific researched-based teaching practices from NCTM’s Principles to Action, that are essential for a high quality mathematics education for all students. We are pleased to welcome keynote speaker, Dr. Sandy Atkins, Owner and Executive Director of Creating Aha’s, educator and former CEO of ORIGO Education. Dr. Atkins will speak on ways to create “Aha” moments through authentic teaching and learning experiences. These moments will ensure mathematical connections are made by teachers and students. Throughout the institute, participants will attend breakout sessions grounded in the Principles to Actions’ Eight Mathematical Teaching Practices that support student understanding of mathematics and the Common Core State Standards. Statewide regional math, science and language arts coordinators, along with teacher leaders, will address opportunities for mathematics to be taught in different content areas, as well as the use of more engaging tasks and classroom discourse. Participants will be immersed in interactive sessions that add to their repertoire of classroom strategies that create more engaging opportunities for students of mathematics.
