The Siegrist Star
Week of September 26, 2022
Welcome to Siegrist:
Good afternoon Siegrist families!!
The first few weeks of school have flown by. We have enjoyed having all of our Seigrist leaders back in the building after the summer break. This year our school counselor, Dr. Mann, and our social worker, Mrs. Wyckoff, have been focused on spending time welcoming all new students. Lunch Bunch sessions with the new students, has allowed Dr. Mann, Mrs. Wycoff, Mrs. Richardson and administration time to build community with new students. This is one of many ways we are focused on supporting new students' transition. Our new student luncheon has provided a space for students to make connections with peers, feel seen and form trusting relationships with each other. This has also provided an opportunity for Dr. Mann and Mrs. Wycoff to connect personally with students and foster a warm, safe and supportive learning environment.
During these times students have provided us with feedback on what we are doing well and how we can improve to make our school better for all students. This feedback will be used by Siegrist's Staff and Student Lighthouse Teams to support planning and programming. Dr. Mann and Mrs. Wyckoff will be meeting with all of our new students as a grade level group at various times throughout the year. While I am highlighting one of the many happenings at Siegrist today in our weekly newsletter, I want to invite you to take a moment to follow our school page on Facebook (CLICK HERE). We have so much to celebrate and showcase as a school and we would love for you to see our daily happenings and give us a supportive thumbs up!
We wish you a great weekend and look forward to welcoming our Siegrist leaders back on Monday!
All the best,
Mrs. Johna-Kaye Sutton

School Breakfast/Lunch
Just a reminder that student breakfast and lunch cost this year; $1.85 for breakfast and $2.60 for lunch. Parents can view their child's meal purchases and account balances on the parent portal. If you are in need of assistance with paying for meals there is a free/reduced form that can be completed to see if you qualify,
Mrs. Wyckoff can assist with this. Be sure to ask your student (s) if he/she is purchasing meals, sometimes we find out that students are buying meals without their parents/guardians knowing. We certainly don't want any surprises for our parents/guardians.
For Siegrist 3rd-5th grade families!
The week of September 26 - September 30 we need students to bring their own personal bike helmets from home if you have one to PE class (see your teacher's newsletter for this schedule). Bringing your own helmet will help save time but also allow us to check if your child's helmet fits properly. If your child does not have a helmet already, please do NOT go purchase one. A helmet will be provided if needed. Elbow and knee guards are welcomed but not required. If your child does not know how to ride a bike, that is ok, we will make accommodations as needed to make sure all students are comfortable.
We are so excited to have a new and very hands-on PE activity coming to Siegrist...Bike Safety! BikeWalkKC will be coming to team-teach with us the rules of the road with their BLAST program. A huge thank you to our PTA for using our fundraising money from APEX last year to bring this program to our students.

22-23 Watch D.O.G.S. signup
The Dads of Great Students WATCH D.O.G.S. program is one of the nation’s largest and most respected school-based, family, and community engagement, organizations in the country. WATCH D.O.G.S. is a family and community engagement educational initiative designed and developed by educators, experts and parent volunteers over more than two decades.
These programs for Elementary and Secondary School campuses help provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important. Meanwhile, we provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security, reduce bullying and provide a greater sense of campus safety allowing students and teachers to focus on learning and instruction.
WATCH D.O.G.S. mission is to support principals and teachers by providing willing volunteers while contributing to improved outcomes for students. If you are interested in being a WATCH D.O.G., please use the link below to sign up.

HAPPY FALL YA ALL!
Open Positions at PCR-3
The school year has started, but we still have some openings across our District, including bus drivers, custodians, paraprofessionals, and lunch monitors. If interested in joining our team, click here to apply!
Specifically at Siegrist Elementary, we have openings for Support Staff/Paraprofessional, Elementary Teaching/Elementary Level Educator, and Support Staff/Lunch Monitor .
English Language Arts and Math Screener (Fastbridge) to Guide Personalized Instruction
Students in PCR-3 participate in screening in English Language Arts and Mathematics as a way to provide information related to skill acquisition in those areas. This assessment, known as FastBridge, replaces STAR, which was used in the District for quite some time. Fastbridge is a nationally normed screener and is a skills-aligned assessment that will inform instruction to best meet student learning needs. This assessment will be administered three times this school year: Fall, Winter, and Spring. Our Fall window runs September 1 - September 30. Students do not need to prepare for this assessment and the results are used for informational purposes only.
Counselor's Corner
Welcome to a new school year! We are so happy to have you at Siegrist. This year we have made some changes to the counseling department that we wanted to share with you. We now have two counselors at Siegrist: Dr.Mann and Mrs. Burrows! Dr. Mann will be working with 2nd -5th graders and Mrs. Burrows will be working with Kindergarten and 1st graders. Mrs. Burrows is at Siegrist on Thursday and Friday and a rotating Wednesday. She is split between us and Compass. The school counseling program overview can be viewed here.
Attendance:
School attendance is so important! Our school attendance goal is: 90% or higher attendance. We wanted to share a few attendance facts with you to highlight the importance of attendance:
Missing two days per month is the equivalent of 18 days per year or 10% of the school year.
Poor attendance can affect a child’s ability to read proficiently by the end of third grade.
When school attendance improves, so does the likelihood of graduating high school.
-We are here to work as a team to help your child succeed. If getting to school is a concern, please reach out to a staff member for assistance.
The best way to reach us is via email. Please don’t hesitate to contact either of us if you are needing anything. Our contact information is below:
