21 Sports ... 1 Team ... WE ARE HOBART!
It's a lot like the photo below - in an ARCH, the workload is SHARED between all of the parts and each BRICK relies on the others for STRENGTH. If all the parts WORK WORK WORK together, sharing ONE VISION and ONE PURPOSE ... it creates something special that lasts :)
Ok - now that we're all on the same page ... it's time for BricksCenter!
Basketball
The draw paired Hobart with Porter County neighbor Portage in a rematch from late January ... a 36-24 Indians victory. First quarter action went back-and-forth as each team found the bottom of the net often and Portage grabbed an early 15-14 lead. The Brickies kept it going in the 2nd frame and clamped down on D-D-D-DEFENSE ... harassing the Indians with a STELLAR halfcourt zone and even extending it full court after made baskets to PULL AHEAD 25-20 in the waning moments! A Portage guard banked in a long 3 at the buzzer to cut the Brickie lead to 2 ... 25-23 ... at the half.
The 3rd period was more of the same GRIND as both teams came out of the halftime locker room looking to gain control. Hobart held off EVERY Portage charge and even extended the lead to 3 at 35-32 with just 8 minutes remaining!! The Brickies pushed the margin to 5 ... 39-34 ... only to see the Indians charge back to tie things up at 39-39 with 2 fateful minutes left. Each team had chances to steal victory as the clock wound down, but neither could capitalize and the game went to OVERTIME!! That's right folks ... we got the BONUS package!
In the OT, Portage struck 1st with an old-fashioned 3-point play ... then Hobart answered with two FTs by junior Jaydon Hence to cut it 1. Over the next 90 seconds, the Indians rattled off 6 straight and took control, 48-41, with just under 2 minutes remaining. Our boys NEVER quit, but ultimately the 7-point margin was too much to overcome and Portage hung on to earn a hard fought 51-45 victory. Senior Max Jancich accounted for the Brickies' final points on the season with 2 FTs in the closing seconds.
It was a disappointing end ... they all are when you lace them up for the last time. Our boys represented Hobart SO WELL all year because of their EFFORT, DETERMINATION, TEAMWORK, HUSTLE & DESIRE. They WORK WORK WORKed as hard as they could to compete and for that they should feel GREAT PRIDE - I know that's how we feel about them! They say it's the journey that counts, not the destination ... I would have to agree. This team STAYED THE COURSE against adversity and KEPT PLAYING in spite of the obstacles facing them ... NEVER GIVING UP until the final buzzer sounded. CONGRATULATIONS to Coach Brown, his staff, and the entire team on such a GREAT year! THANK YOU one more time to our seniors ... Quinten White, Fabian Salazar-Bernal & Max Jancich ... for everything you gave for this team and this town. We are VERY PROUD of you!!
