The Dolphin Whistle
September 9th, 2015 - Issue 4
It's hard to believe that at the end of this week your children will have finished one month of school! Soon it will be time for the annual Walkathon and Silent Auction. The PTA's from both schools are planning this event together and it is Friday, October 9th from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. Our school, Mariano Castro, needs as many volunteers as possible on the day of the event. Thank you to Fernanda Brant and William Buitron, our parent leads for the Walkathon! If you have any questions please contact me or one of them.

Living Classroom Update & Request for Help with Fall Garden Days
To cultivate a garden that best fits the Living classroom curriculum we need a bit of help from our Castro & Mistral green thumb parents!
The Garden preparation tasks for Living Classroom lessons are as follows; we will need help with turning over 5 raised beds and adding soil amendments to beds, to prepare for student planting. There will also be some need of weeding and organizing of the tool sheds.
Garden projects in need of caretakers: This is a great way to volunteer at school at drop off and/or pick up times for 5 to 15 minutes per week. The fenced-in garden is too much for one person to manage, so we will divide and conquer the garden maintenance by asking you to take care of one thing in the garden. What are the things needing care?
- Take care of two barrels of succulent plants. (for the year)
- Establishing two barrels of blueberry bushes.
- Keep bird bath filled with water. (for the year)
- Care for the herb raised planter bed. (for the year)
- Take care of two rose bushes. (for the year)
- Take care of feeding the worms in the worm box. (for the year)
- Help turn over 5 raised garden beds. (one time request)
If you are interested in any of these garden “care taking” jobs, please come to the fenced garden on either of the dates listed below. (These care taking jobs can be done along with your child.)
Fall Garden Preparation Dates are:
Tuesday, September 15th, 10 am - noon and/or Saturday, October 10th, 10am - noon.
See you soon! Your PTA Garden supporters,
Shelly Kosak (Mistral) & Lynn Owano (Castro)
