Crazy Doc's rant and raves...
Everyone is doing a great job of adapting to our temporary normal. Thank you so much for providing that constant, reassuring source for your students.
My goal for you is to shut down your computer at the end of the work day and enjoy your time. Please stay away from your device as much as possible when you are not teaching.
Please make sure you are reading the SPS at Home daily annoucements, there is so much information in these annoucements to support you as you are adapting to this new way of learning.
Huge thank you to Amy for organizing our surprise guest during today's meeting!
This is a google doc where I will try to keep information updated. Please let me know if there is anything you wish were on here.
Teacher Spotlight
Thank you so much to Dr. T. She has taken on the task of office based student outreach. When you are unable to reach a student, or the district tells us the students are not logging on enough; Dr. T is the one who takes the first step to reach out. There is only one set of siblings we have not had any contact yet throughout the whole thing, and we are educating multiple students who no longer live in our district. Dr. T is the the driver behind the connections!
I would love to give a shout out to Ms. Bosovik who was more than willing to take on this new adventure of virtual teaching alongside of us. Not only was she willing to learn the tools and materials, she continued teaching where she left off in the classroom supporting our students. Lidiya has also stepped up and took over as lead teacher a few times when I had technology issues. Special thank you to Ms. Bosovik and her dedication and commitment to education and to Bingham!
Thank you!
Mrs. Woodward
I encourage you to send text/email/snail mail/phone call to one of your teammates who you usually do not work with this week. Tell them how great they are doing!
Do you have a idea for a person in the spotlight? Please let me know.
Great podcast that shares a lot of what you are currently dealing with.
Lifting Spirits Through Art
The art museum is sponsoring something called L.A.W.N (Lawn Art With your Neighbors). It will be during the time of the normal first Friday art walk.
I (Kroenke) would like to do something in front of Bingham using teacher pictures. So I need a picture of you. It needs to be just a head shot that I can enlarge. It can be a silly picture if you want. If you could also give me some kind of quote that I could put in a speech bubble coming out of your mouth.
It can be anything, it can even refer to something you do in your class.
“I miss having our read alouds.”
“I miss you all.”
“I can’t wait to see you again.”
“Stay safe.”
“Keep washing those hands.”
The whole idea would be that students could drive by and see us in front of the school. The actual L.A.W.N. event for everyone to see is May 1-11, but it has to be up by April 25th which is next week. So if you could please, please, please send your pictures by Monday, April 20th. I know that is really soon but I will have to be working on it right away to get it done. If you don’t want to participate that is totally fine, just remember students will be driving by looking for us. You can email or text me your pictures and quotes. My phone number is (417) 569-9688.
Inner Peace
One thing I (Tarrasch) often struggle with is learning how to slow my roll. I talk fast, I walk fast, I think fast, and practicing "being in the moment" is one of the hardest things for me. That being said, I love the app, Insight Timer. Insight Timer offers hundreds of meditations with all kinds of focuses. There are guided meditations, courses, music, and specific topics like coping with stress, coping with anxiety, improving your sleep, and boosting your self-esteem. You can also determine the amount of time you want to spend on it from a couple of minutes to over an hour. I have the free version (although you can upgrade for additional options). If anyone is interested in this resource you can download the app or get it here.
Also, you can find the yoga options at Groupon. There's a three month option of unlimited online yoga classes for $5 and a year of unlimited yoga for $15. There are tons of classes and styles at all levels, from beginners to advanced.
What are you doing to support yourself during this time? Please email me (Tarrasch) with pictures, suggestions, ideas, etc and I will share them in next week's Smore.
Namaste Bingham!
