The Care For the Dogs

  • Tierd/injured dogs go to the vet at the checkpoints then get returned at another checkpoint
  • Mushers have to feed and take care of the dogs
  • Owners keep the dogs from getting frostbite
  • Mushers use blankets from getting to much cold exposure

  • The iditarod does sprints from Willow Yenta Station (42 miles)
  • Iditarod can be up to 998 miles (Willow to Nome)
  • Have to run from 10 to 16 days
  • Race is 500 to 1,170 miles
