Nuts and Bolts of 2nd Grade
School starts at 9:15, ends at 3:30
We have snack daily. Please send just 1 nut free item and water only.
We try to go out every day during recess. As the weather gets colder, please send your child with weather appropriate clothing.
PLEASE call the office if there is a dismissal change.
Workshop Model
The workshop model follows the structure below:
- Mini Lesson- Teacher teaches a new strategy or skill to the whole class.
- Independent Time- Students are independently reading, writing or practicing math skills. During this time, teachers are meeting with students 1:1 and in small groups.
- Share- Students come back to the carpet and connect their learning to the daily objective.

Phonics
Fundations is the systematic, explicit teaching of phonics skills with an emphasis on spelling patterns, not memorization of words. Students will learn to tap out words using the sounds they are taught in Fundations.
Students will learn trick words, which are also referred to as "heart words" in Fundations. Heart words mean that part of the word is decodable, but there may be one or two parts of the word that sound irregular.
