Born into a wealthy family on February 12, 1910 in South Korea

Started a rice mill

In 1938, started Samsung Trading Co.

In 1953, started Cheil Sugar and it became very successful

Attended Waesda University in Tokyo, but never completed his degree

Lee had 3 children, one son and two daughters

Lee Byung-chul died on November 19, 1987 in Seoul, South Korea, at age 77
