Teacher Spotlight
Mrs. Sammie Parker~Science/MTSS
Mrs. Parker began her career with Valley Heights in 2006 after attending Texas Christian University and earning a bachelor's degree in Neuroscience. In order to become a teacher she then attended Kansas State University where she became a certified biology teacher and received a masters in Curriculum and Instruction. Since her employment, Mrs. Parker has taken on various roles in the district including, paraeducator, At-Risk Coordinator, Special Educator, Kansas Reading Roadmap (KRR) Coordinator, Kinderprep Teacher, MTSS Coordinator and now Life Science Teacher. Mrs. Parker says that she is blessed to have been in these various roles; they have given her perspective that not many in education get to see and experience. Mrs. Parker is also currently enjoying coaching Jr. High Volleyball and sponsoring Jr. Class and StuCo at the high school.
Mrs. Parker is married to Dane Parker, owner of Dane's Automotive and has 5 children: Reece, 7th grade, Sophia, 6th grade, Beckett, 3rd grade and Eloise and Aiden, kinderprep. Much of her free time is spent enjoying watching her childrens' involvement in various sports and activities. She also enjoys spending her time attending church and bible studies, gardening, reading and traveling.
A Letter from Mr. Savage
We are going to start out with TVL Volleyball Tournament information! The brackets were finalized on Wednesday of this week after all the TVL games and our Lady Mustangs earned the #2 seed. Pool play starts at 9:00 am but we will not play until the 10:00 am contest. Other schools in Pool B include D. West, Washington County, and Centralia. Pool A is made up of Hanover, Frankfort, Clifton-Clyde and Linn. The Silver Division rounds out the tournament with TVL members – Troy, Axtell, Blue Valley and Onaga. We wish our Lady Mustangs and coaches the best of luck as we enter tournament play. We have included a copy of the TVL Tournament bracket for our patrons. You will also find a copy of our 2024 high school football schedule which was finalized last week.
We hosted our annual Parent Appreciation Night for our high school volleyball program in order to recognize the parents for their support of this program. Special recognition was set aside for the parents of our senior athletes! The role of the parent is an important part of any successful program. They are there for late night talks about a big win or a tough defeat as well as the daily encouragement to continue to do their very best. Valley Heights really does appreciate the support we receive from this very special group of people.
Our FFA program participated in the District Dairy Cattle Evaluation on October 11th and placed 9th out of thirty-one schools. Team members included Dustin Denton, Hudson Nemechek, Jayden DeWalt, Anna Brungardt, Josie Parker and Caden Weaver. Congratulations to these students and their advisor, Ms. Carrie Husband!
Our Cross Country programs are nearing the end of their competitive seasons with both the BVL and TVL league competitions this past week. At the BVL meet Tyler Holmes placed 1st in the 8th Grade Boys’ Division and Langston Gray finished 2nd in the Boys’ 7th Grade Division to end their season. Great job guys! At the TVL meet Lindsay Gray finished in 17th place and Kloee Martin finished in 35th. In the boys’ competition Hudson Nemechek medaled with a 5th place finish and Charlie Warders placed 27th! Our high school runners will now focus in on the regional competition with a chance to punch their ticket to state! Best of Luck to all of them and Coach Pishney!
Set aside the dates of November 10th, 11th and 12th if you would like to attend our fall play. This year’s show is titled “Yearbook Reflections”, a musical with a mix of comedy as well as some more poignant moments! Our fall play is one highlight of our fall calendar and we would invite all of you to attend to see our students put on this performance.
A reminder that we do not have classes on Monday, October 16, for Professional Development.
Have a great week!
