GaDOE Climate Survey
It is time to take the 2017 Climate Survey for ALB! Our climate score was recently released, and we dropped from a 4-star to a 3-star rating. We missed the 4-star rating by 0.7 points. That small margin is the difference in a few people's answers on the surveys.
The Georgia Parent Survey is modeled after the student survey and contains 24 questions. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphones or tablet. For parents that do not have access to the Internet, we will have a station set up during Conference Week for parents to take the survey on our computers. Parents are also welcome to come to the Media Center and take the survey during school hours. All parents are encouraged to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey because the data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online. The school administrators receive a summary of the results from the DOE and use the data to guide decision-making processes in the school.
The URL address for the Georgia Parent Survey is posted below. On the link, there is an opportunity to take the survey in Spanish.

IB Information Sessions
“The IB Learner is at the heart of an International (IB) education. The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) was introduced in 1997. The IBPYP is one part of a continuum of international education for students aged 3 to 19. The IB’s work is informed by research and by over 40 years of practical experience. The IB has always championed a stance of critical engagement with challenging ideas, one that values the progressive thinking of the past while remaining open to future innovation. The aim of all IB programmes is to be informed by these values, an IB education:
· Centers on learners
· Develops effective approaches to teaching and learning
· Works within global contexts
· Explores significant content
Working together these four characteristics define an IB education.” (IB Continuum: What is an IB education? p.1)

ALB's score increased from 66.4 in 2015 to 75.3 in 2016. Our Achievement points stayed the same within 0.1 points. Our Progress (Growth) score increased and our subgroup achievement of Economically Disadvantaged, English Language Learners, and Students with Disabilities increased, which gave us more points in closing the Achievement Gap and in Progress.

Georgia Milestones, Grades 3-5 Resources
We believe, as Dr. Rivera shared at PTA this week, that the home is an extension of the classroom. The best way you can help your children is to read with them at home. Read to them and let them read to you. That said, there are state resources available if you want to practice problems for the Georgia Milestones End of Grade assessment.

How Do We Use Assessment Results?
When we received the Winter MAP results, we disaggregated the data to identify children who were both not performing on grade level and who were not growing as they should. Teachers identify areas of strength and areas for growth and design differentiated instruction according to those needs. We are also adapting schedules, adjusting learning targets, modifying grouping, and adding interventions based on the MAP results.
MAP results are also used as one of a few criteria for placement in special programs, including AC math and Early Intervention Program (EIP).
