PBIS Kick-off Parent Volunteers Needed
PBIS Student Expectations- we will be going over these expectations with our students
Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS)
John Handley High School is a PBIS School. PBIS is an abbreviation for Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS). We wanted to share this information with families in advance so we can work together to support our students together. There will be rewards for students meeting expectations scheduled throughout the school year. We will be doing a kickoff event on August 23 for all students. After the kickoff event only students meeting behavior expectations will be able to attend PBIS reward events. The first PBIS reward date is September 23. We want all of our students to be able to attend these events.
What is Positive Behavior Interventions and Support?
PBIS is a process for creating safer and more effective schools. It is a systems approach to enhancing the capacity of schools to educate all children by developing research-based, school-wide, and classroom behavior support systems. The process focuses on improving a school’s ability to teach and support positive behavior for all students. Rather than a prescribed program, PBIS provides systems for schools to design, implement, and evaluate effective school-wide, classroom, non-classroom, and student specific plans. PBIS includes school-wide procedures and processes intended for all students and all staff in all settings. PBIS is not a program or a curriculum. It is a team-based process for systemic problem solving, planning, and evaluation. It is an approach to creating a safe and productive learning environment where teachers can teach and all students can learn.
What is PBIS at our school?
We have adopted a unified set of classroom rules. Similar to the JHHS Code of Student Conduct, these rules define our expectations for behavior in our school. You will see these rules posted throughout the school and your child will be learning them during his or her first days at school. Our unified classroom rules, found in every classroom and non-classroom setting in the school, are as follows:
Expectation #1: Respect time and place.
Expectation #2: Be present.
Expectation #3: Leave it better than you found it.
Expectation #4: Be the good
Your Feedback is Requested
Although we appreciate all feedback, we may not be able to make immediate changes this school year.

Handley Parking Permit
Students are permitted to park on school premises as a matter of privilege, not of right. If you are going to be driving to school for the 2022 -2023 school year and parking in the Handley parking lot, you must obtain a parking permit. Below you will find instructions on how to register your vehicle and obtain a parking permit.
Step one - Visit the Handley web page and locate the High School Student Parking Pass Application (Spanish here)
If you do not have access to the internet, you may come into school and use a library computer or pick up a copy of the parking application in the main office
Step two - Print off and complete the High School Student Parking Pass Application (Spanish here) with all the needed information.
Step three - Bring the completed parking application to school on July 28 or anytime after during business hours.
See the school treasurer to pay the $25 parking fee or parking permits may be purchased through School Cash online using credit cards. The necessary registration form will still need to be completed online prior to picking up the parking permit hang tag. Once the registration is completed and credit card payment is made, bring your receipt to the General Office to pick up the hang tag.
Take the receipt and complete parking application to the main office and one of the administrative assistants will assign you a parking space and give you a parking permit.
Step four - Hang the parking permit from your rear view mirror.
The parking permit must be visible.
The parking permit will have a number on it. That number is your assigned spot for the year.
You may only park in your assigned spot during school hours. If you fail to park in your spot, break any parking lot rules, and/or chronically late to school you may lose your privilege to park in the lot and anywhere on school property.
