Southport High School Core Beliefs
Perseverance:
I CAN ACCEPT THAT MY FAILURES WILL HELP ME LEARN AND GROW.
Failure can have a very negative connotation. We are often taught at a young age that failure needs to be avoided. We celebrate the victors and quickly forget the losers. Of course, when all the emphasis is placed on the outcome or the product of our work failure equates to a lack of success. If we can shift our focus to the process, then failure simply means we are pushing ourselves to the brink. On that edge is where growth and improvement live. If we never make it to this edge, then we never truly know how much we could accomplish. In our core values, this ideal may be the most difficult mindset to change in our students, and in ourselves. We have to undo years of conditioning to help those we serve understand that while it may be the most difficult value to embrace, it might also be one of the most important.
