School Reopening and Registration Update
Greetings Wildcat Families,
We hope that you have been enjoying some relaxation, family time, and summer fun, even while social distancing during these last few months. We have missed our Wildcats, and though administration is on summer break until August 7th, we have been busy behind the scenes preparing for the start of the year!
IMPORTANT UPDATE- FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL IS SEPTEMBER 8th.
Our VUSD school board has voted to delay the start of the school year to September 8th.
Superintendent Dr. Doyle has sent several Community Updates that have been chronicling the school board decisions and health orders that are guiding our plans. Click HERE for his most recent Community Update dated July 28. As he details in the update, our school board decided to move forward with offering two learning models for the 2020/2021 school year:
- Vista Classic - (in person, on campus learning with normal schedule and robust set of health and safety measures)
- Vista Virtual - (distance learning with RMS teachers with daily teacher contact and live virtual activities and meetings)
For full information on these models and more details regarding our reopening plans, please refer to the district reopening website: www.vistausd.org/schoolreopening In addition to the FAQs, another helpful document that answers many questions is Learning Model Information for Secondary Schools.
Based on the school board's decision, re-registration starts today and will be open until August 12. This re-registration gives families the opportunity to select the learning model that they would like for their students in the event we are able to allow in-person education on campus once the county health order is lifted.
DETAILS ON RE-REGISTRATION: By now you should have received a "re-registration" email from the district. Please note that the email is sent from the following email address: "Svcworkflows" and the email subject is "Learning Model Registration Notification- Secondary." Be sure to check your various inboxes for the email. If for some reason you do not receive the email, you can still complete the re-registration process by logging into your Parent Portal on AERIES or by following this link: https://forms.vistausd.org/Forms/LearningModelRegistration
Reminders:
- If you do not register your student within the window, your student will be assigned to the Vista Virtual learning model.
- Your student will remain in the chosen learning model for the entire first semester.
- Based on enrollment, some programs and courses may not be available in each model as school schedules and classes are created based on student requests.
*Note: due to health orders, we are not able to resume in-person learning until we are removed from the state's monitoring list and are off the list for at least 14 days. With the current direction from the board, leadership teams (including our awesome Roosevelt team) are working on finalizing plans for schedules and implementation of safety protocols and instructional recommendations at school sites.
Though in many ways these times are uncertain and unsettling, please know that our dedicated staff and faculty at Roosevelt look forward to collaborating with you to support all of our students in this exciting and transformative time in their lives.
Stay safe and healthy! We are looking forward to welcoming our students back virtually on September 8th!
Sincerely,
Heather Golly

PAWS of the Month: Determination
Determination is when a person keeps on trying, even though it is difficult. We all need to show extra determination as the end of the year grows closer and summer fun is on our mind. We are looking for students to show some extra grit, perseverance, and determination as they work to finish the year strong and successful!
