Trimester two wraps up this week! We are so proud of the hard work students have been putting in to finish their classes with the best grades possible. Additionally, we have lots to celebrate this month regarding Sports, FFA, Performing Arts, and so much more!

Spring Break is right around the corner! This means the end of the school year will be here before we know it. We are so excited about all the future has in store for our students. As we work together to support them in their path to career and college readiness, please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Officer Kathryn Bottoms is the new Student Resource Officer (SRO) for Crook County High School. She's been with Prineville PD for 17 years and served as an SRO earlier in her career.

"I had a blast connecting with students the last time I served as an SRO. After years working patrol, I wanted to get back into schools and do my part to positively impact our local youth," said Officer Bottoms.

Scholarship Deadlines can be found on the scholarship page!

• Review their transcript and determine what classes they need for graduation.
• Look at the Course Description Book to see what classes are available and if they have completed all prerequisites required.
• There are NEW courses offered next year, so make sure they take a look!
• Fill out the Forecasting sheet.
• For electives, students must choose 1-9, with #1 being the class they want the most to #9 the class they would be ok taking

NEW SCHEDULING POLICY

Next school year, students will have one opportunity to change their schedule at registration in August. After that, schedules are set for the year and will only be changed if specific teacher requests or special circumstances exist. Students should be intentional about the classes they choose.

Congratulations to the Cowboys and Cowgirls for qualifying for the 4A Basketball State Tournament in Forest Grove, March 9th - 11th. It's the first time in school history both teams have played in the state tournament together. The girls played tough but came up short in their first two games. The boys dropped their first game to Philomath but regrouped Friday and Saturday with wins over Baker and Marist Catholic to capture the 4th-place trophy. A huge SHOUTOUT to our CCHS Pep Band and Cheerleaders for attending all three days. Thanks to our awesome student section for the support on Thursday. CCHS had the loudest crowds in the gyms!

The Crook County Cowboys Wrestling team brought home a 3rd-Place trophy at the 4A State Tournament at Memorial Coliseum in Portland. Makenna Duran becomes the first CC girl's wrestler in school history to win gold! Gavin Sandoval also gets a 1st-place finish at 152! CC had a total of 12 wrestlers (1 girl and 11 boys) placed at state. Way to go!!!

Guess who has the best Culinary Arts team in Oregon? That's right! Crook County High School!

Congratulations to Mr. Macy Hagensee and his team of student chefs for winning 1st Place in the Oregon Hospitality Foundation's Statewide Oregon ProStart Championships in Salem on Monday, March 13th. The CCHS team included: Abbi Pack, Sawyer McDonald, Kiera Glenn, Tayah Hagensee, and Aspen Cross.

Students had to prepare a three-course gourmet meal with only two butane burners in less than one hour. Our team made Mediterranean Influenced Shrimp, Pan-Seared Pork Tenderloin Medallions, and a Silky Chocolate Mouse for dessert. Now they get to attend the national competition May 2nd-4th in Washington, D.C. How exciting is that? Great job and way to represent CC!

Did you know that missing 13 days of school, whether excused or unexcused, classifies a student as chronically absent?

Research shows that:

• By 9th grade, attendance predicts graduation rates better than 8th-grade test scores (Attendance Works: Keep Your Child On Track in Middle and High School).

• Missing 10%, or two days a month, over the school year can affect a student’s academic success. (Attendance Works: Keep Your Child On Track in Middle and High School).

Tips to help your student be successful:

• Make attendance a priority for your family by discussing the importance of showing up daily and making good daily routines, like homework time, wake-up, etc.

• Help your student get engaged: it’s not too late to start a spring sport or join a club!

• Communicate with the school: if your student needs help with attendance, please contact us so we can help!
