YOUR WEEKLY UPDATE FROM THE SOUTH GLENS FALLS CSD
Dear SGF Families
It’s homecoming weekend! We couldn’t be more excited to see the return of the homecoming dance on Saturday. We hope you will join us at 7 p.m. tonight (Oct. 14) for our homecoming game against Ballston Spa!
It has been a busy and exciting week at SGF. There has been a lot of spooky fun at Tanglewood, where a trio of skeletons has actively entertained our students. Some of our student-athletes got the chance to let their voices be heard at the Foothills Council. Our varsity field hockey team has a regular season for the history books. A 12-year-old OWWMS is having a memorable season on the varsity golf team.
Let’s get to the stories.

Be sure to see the wonderful profile The Post-Star wrote about SGF golfer Hayden Knapp. Knapp, a student at Oliver W. Winch Middle School, has had a wonderful season on the SGF Golf Team. In the profile piece, she talks about the welcome she got from the high schoolers on the team, her year so far, and the exciting opportunities she has had playing golf at such a high level.

Ten SGF student-athletes got the chance to attend the Foothills Council Leadership Summit on Thursday at Fulton-Montgomery Community College. Students at the summit got the opportunity to discuss mental health, sportsmanship, spectator code of conduct and leadership.

Alternate Transportation For Athletics
As many of you know, school districts across the state continue to face bus driver shortages. The South Glens Falls CSD is no exception.
Our Transportation Department is currently operating with just enough bus drivers and monitors to complete the district’s daily routes.
To ensure our students can participate in as many athletic competitions as possible, South Glens Falls CSD is setting up a tiered approach to athletic transportation if we cannot secure a bus driver for an athletic competition.
In the event there is NOT a driver available, we will ask parents/guardians to transport students for short distances - Hudson Falls, Glens Falls, Queensbury and Schuylerville.
Our athletic department works hard to ensure that schedules allow transportation for all our athletes. We are, however, taking this step to head off any potential issues. We want to assure our families that they will not have to transport their students for every away game.
We fully understand that this is a hardship for many families. At SGF, we always try our best to accommodate all families. We aim to keep contests going at all levels. This is one way we are trying to make that happen. Unfortunately, our district is not immune from the issue of driver shortages.
The athletics department will send out a ParentSquare notification with permission slips for parents/guardians who can drive their child(ren) if/when it is needed.
Families who are unable to drive may have a parent/guardian from the team that is willing to drive the child to and from the game. We ask that a separate form be filled out approving the alternative transportation.
In the event, there is a longer run for a game, and no district drivers are available, the SGF athletic office will secure a coach bus for our athletes. In addition, the district may change the time of some games to allow multiple teams to take teams on the same charter bus.
We thank you for your cooperation and understanding on this matter. Any further questions may be directed to the athletic office at (518) 792-9987.
