Soaring for Excellence through Commitment, Collaboration and Community
Administrative Greetings!
Dear Minnieville Elementary School Families:
This week our kindergarten students were placed into one of our 4 nests and received a nest shirt. Our 5th-grade nest and chant leaders welcomed our kindergarten students into their nests and taught them the team chants.
At Minnieville, to create a school community with our students, parents, and staff, our students from all grade levels are randomly placed into four nests (teams). Each nest holds a deeper meaning and serves as an instant family for our school community.
Every Friday is school spirit day and students are encouraged to wear their nest shirts. If students need new nest shirts they can be purchased for $15.00 cash only.
Contact the school office at 703-670-6106 if you are interested in purchasing new shirts.
The Minnieville Elementary school mascot is the eagle so each nest is represented by an eagle.
Our four nests are:
Bateleur -Bravery Color- BLACK
This medium-sized eagle is a colorful species and has earned its title as one of the most majestic African eagles. Its closest relatives are the snake eagles. Bateleur eagles are widely distributed in Africa, particularly in the south of the Sahara Desert.
Kinabalu- Integrity Color- RED
The Kinabalu is also called the mountain serpent eagle. This eagle is found in on an island in southeast Asia.
Aquila-Friendship Color-BLUE
Aquila is the Latin word for eagle. Aquila is also a constellation in the sky which represents the bird who carried thunderbolts in Greek and Roman myths.
Imperial-Persistence Color- PURPLE
The Imperial eagle is an eagle that is found in southeastern Europe to western and central Asia. Most populations are migratory and spend winters in southern and eastern Asia.
Students earn points for their nests each week for a variety of reasons such as exhibiting good behavior, demonstrating mastery or personal best efforts in academics, and performing community service.
