Read Every Day Folders
RED folders are going home tonight! These books are to be read nightly. A good fit book will be in it for your child to read. Please read with your child as often as possible. Short practice periods promote decoding skills, reading fluency, and comprehension skills.
Directions:
- Have your child read the book that is in their RED envelope. Please sit with them and help them sound out words after they have tried to decode the word themselves. If there is a struggle, please help them with the word to avoid them shutting down reading completely.
- Keep the practices short and positive. Give a lot of encouragement and praise!
- Keep the book and practice it until your child can read the book correctly and fluently aloud to you. Please sign the reading log inside the envelope. Students usually need to practice the same book over several days.
- Ask your child a few comprehension questions.
- Return book in envelope to school for a new book.
Important Information:
- The books sent home in the reading folder are decodable books (most of the words sound out or are common sight words). This practice is SO important!
- Each list has instructions on how you can support your reader with the book level they are working on.
- The books belong to NCA so please take good care of them when reading them.
I am so thrilled to partner with you on your child’s reading journey. I love seeing their love of reading grow. Thank you so much for your support. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Happy Reading!
