GCPS Parent/Community Edition
Greensville County Instructional Team and Support Staff
Attention 8th Grade Students and Parents
Dear Panther Parents,
Wyatt Middle School will administer the Science/Civics SOL test beginning January 4th through January 22, 2021. The Virginia Department of Education is requiring in-person testing; however, if you are uncomfortable with your child reporting to school to take the test at this time, you may opt to take the test during the Spring 2021 semester (May 17th through June 4th).
Please be reminded that you must test this school year.
The purpose of this survey is to determine your intent to test, and if you will require transportation through the GCPS Department of Transportation.
Please respond by 11:59 PM, Tuesday, December 15th, 2020.
Despite the health crisis, the Virginia Department of Education is mandating that these assessments are administered in-person. The following safety guidelines will be in place:
Only 25 students will be tested each day;
Transportation will be provided with no more than 10 students per bus. Upon arrival at school, buses will unload one at a time. Students will practice social distancing as they enter the building;
Students will be required to wear a face covering on the bus and while at school;
Temperatures will be taken before entering the building. Students with temperatures of 99 degrees or greater will be taken to the comfort room for further evaluation;
Students will test in classrooms of 8-10 students. Seats will be arranged at least 6 feet apart with a sneeze guard between each seat;
Students will use the restroom one at a time. Restrooms will be wiped down and disinfected after each use;
Hand sanitizer stations will be located at each entry, on the testing halls, and in each classroom;
After testing, students will be dismissed by class to the bus;
The buildings will be deep cleaned after each testing session.
Students will receive an email informing them of their testing day.
IF YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH YOUR CHILD REPORTING TO SCHOOL TO TEST AT THIS TIME, YOU MAY OPT OUT OF TESTING NOW AND HAVE THEM TEST IN THE SPRING( 2021). YOU ALSO HAVE THE OPTION TO TRANSPORT YOUR CHILD FOR TESTING.
We will send the survey to your child’s email address, asking whether they will test now or wait until Spring 2021. We will also ask if transportation is needed through the Greensville County Department of Transportation. Please note: The survey will close on Tuesday, December 15th, 2020 at 11:59 pm.
