COVID Management in our Schools

I am thankful and appreciative of the fact that we have continued to be able to provide an in-person learning option for our students thus far. This is a direct result of the collaborative efforts of our parents and staff in adhering to quarantine/isolation guidelines and mitigation strategies. Please know that our staff continues to keep student safety on the forefront of our daily work. In fact, we spent last week's faculty meeting going through contact tracing scenarios to help us identify further strategies to implement in our classrooms to reduce the impact of positive COVID-19 cases. Our staff continues to do everything they can to provide a viable and normal instructional routine for our students while managing the mitigation guidelines set forth by the health department. I appreciate your continued cooperation in following quarantine and isolation guidelines as well. I have included answers to commonly asked questions and the most recent exclusionary guidelines below for your review.

Quarantine and Isolation FAQ's for Parents

Below is a list of questions that our families ask most often regarding student quarantine and student isolation.

A list of FAQ's from the Peoria County Health Department can be found here.

Q. Will my child be switched to a remote classroom?

A. No, students who are quarantined or isolated will remain in their homeroom and be marked with an excused absence.

Q. How will my child make up missed work?

A. Parents will work directly with their child's teacher regarding missed work.

Q. If my child tests negative for Covid-19 can they return early from quarantine?

A. No, students cannot test out of quarantine.

Q. If my child is under quarantine, is everyone in the home under quarantine?

A. No, if your child is under quarantine, they have been identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive. Other house members are considered to be a 3rd party and do not need to quarantine.

Q. If my child is under quarantine and develops symptoms, what does that mean for other house members?

A. If the child under quarantine develops symptoms, then the child is a probable positive and should isolate. If a probable positive occurs, then all house members are considered to be probable close contacts and should quarantine.

  • If symptoms occur during quarantine, please contact your physician for medical advice. In addition please contact your child's school so that contact tracing can begin for the probable positive. IDPH strongly recommends medical evaluation and Covid-19 diagnostic testing for all persons with Covid-like symptoms.

Q. Do I need to contact the Health Department?

A. No, the Health Department will be in contact with you.

Q. What if the Health Department has not contacted me before my child's quarantine has ended?

A. A Dunlap staff member will touch base with you during your child's time in quarantine.

Pick up and drop off procedure reminder

As the winter season approaches, the pick up and drop off process will likely get bogged down as we navigate the winter conditions. As a reminder, you are welcome to park in either parking lot to drop off your child in the morning or to pick them up at the end of the day. If you choose to do so, please walk your child all the way to the front sidewalk (morning) or come and pick up your child from the front sidewalk (afternoon).

If you have more than one child to pick up at the end of the day, please park in the parking lot and pick up your children on the sidewalk. In the morning, please be sure your child is ready to get out as you pull up to the exit area under the front canopy. This will reduce the wait time for others during curbside drop off in the morning.

Birthday Treats

During this phase of reopening, all Dunlap elementary schools are postponing birthday treats. Dunlap elementary schools are trying to limit, to the best of our ability, items being brought into school from the outside. Your child's birthday will still be recognized and celebrated within their classroom.

Picture Re-Take Day

For those in-person and remote learners who were not able to have their picture taken during our recent picture day, we have scheduled a re-take day for Tuesday, January 26th. In-person retakes will be taken in the afternoon during the school day and remote retakes will take place after school in the gym between 2:45-4:15.

with no forms to fill out. Students will order meals as usual with teacher or come through lunch

In School Information: **Ala carte items, extra milk and milk needed for meals brought from

Student Work Packet Pickup Dates/Times

Fridays are the designated day for remote pick up. Remote learner pick up items can be obtained in the lobby between 7AM and 3:30PM each Friday.

In-person teachers may leave packets for students any time as those circumstances are constantly changing. In-person item(s) can only be picked up between 7AM and 3:30PM.

Physical Education Excuses

A parent/guardian may excuse a student from physical education for up to two days. Any long term physical education excuse must be requested in writing from the student’s health care provider, specifying the length of time your child is to be exempted. A written note from the health care provider should be submitted for the student to resume full activities. Any child who is exempt from physical education for medical reasons will not be allowed to participate in outdoor recess activities. Re-injury on the playground could occur, resulting in prolonging the child’s healing and recovery period. A student who is excused from PE may read a book on the Fox Bench in the Commons during outdoor recess. Any child who is exempt from physical education for medical reasons will not be permitted to participate in school sponsored sports.

Chromebook Tech Support for Remote Learners

The Ridgeview website has a 1:1 Technology button that will help answer the majority of parent questions regarding Canvas FAQ, Chromebook care and Google/Chromebook FAQ. Take some time to familiarize yourself with where to go to find technology assistance.

If you are experiencing any issues with your Chromebook, and cannot find the answers to your questions on any of the tabs in the 1:1 Technology button on the Ridgeview website, please contact the Dunlap IT help desk at

Classroom teachers will not be able to support any issues with technology aside from general login instructions for district platforms.

Dunlap District School Closing Information

Please look for Dunlap District 323 when school closures are announced as Ridgeview Elementary is part of Dunlap District 323.

When are decisions made?

A decision to cancel school may occur between 6:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. the night before school. In most instances, no later than 6:30 a.m. the next day. In an extreme emergency, we may have to announce early dismissal during the school day. Please read through Dunlap District 323 school closing information.

School closings will be communicated in the following ways:

· School Messenger Phone/Email System/Text Messaging

· TV Stations – Channels 19, 25, 31, and 43

· Local Radio Stations - All local stations

· Dunlap School District Voicemail System

· Notification on

· Dunlap Facebook page

School emergency closings could happen at any time of the year. Parents need to arrange plans with their children (a neighbor, childcare, employer, etc.) on what is expected should an emergency closing occur. Decisions for closure, delayed start or to dismiss school early are always a judgment call; however, we do use some general criteria in making such decisions.

Outdoor Recess

As stated on page 10 of the Dunlap Elementary Student Handbook, Students have planned recess periods throughout the day to provide a break from the structured academic program. Since recess usually will be held outdoors, students must dress appropriately for these play periods. As a rule, all children are expected to participate in recess when the temperature is 15 degrees or above (this includes wind chill temperatures).

Visitors and Volunteers

In an effort to follow the guidelines set forth for our return to school, visitors will only be allowed in very unique and absolutely necessary circumstances. These visits would have to be pre-approved by building administration ahead of time. Lunch guests will not be allowed due to the factors indicated previously as well as capacity limitations.

A pick up/drop off corner has been established in the foyer for items that need to be dropped off or picked up. Please call to alert office staff (309-243-7717) ahead of time if you have an item to drop off and be sure to clearly label the item with your child's name and their teacher.
