D103 Learning Update
Hello District 103 Families,
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for partnering with us through this very challenging year. Everyone has worked extremely hard to continue learning for our children during this worldwide pandemic. We have all exhibited perseverance, patience and strength as we work together to help our students learn and grow.
Looking to January 2021, we continue to work with the Lake County Health Department (LCHD) regarding a safe return to school. District 103, along with LCHD, are reviewing data, metrics and information regarding when schools return to in-person learning as well as the CDC’s recommendations and guidelines. We will hear more about LCHD’s recommendations in the next couple of weeks. I will then be able to provide additional information regarding the possibility of opening our doors for in-person learning. We are targeting January 19 as a possible date, which would line up with our shifts in student placements, classes and schedules.
We have good news that education is a top priority in the list of when vaccinations will be given. We are hearing that a vaccine may be available for adults in education as early as February 2021. If this occurs, it may enable districts to keep their doors open more often. Unfortunately, the vaccine has not been approved for children under the age of 16, and if/when that happens, vaccinations for children will not be available until later in the year, possibly the summer of 2021.
Thank you for your partnership. We will continue to work together to bring a strong educational experience for your children. Take time to rest and relax over the next two weeks. Have a Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa and a very happy start to 2021!
All the best,
Scott Warren, Ed.D.

Leave Your Legacy in D103
The D103 Learning Fund Foundation invites your family to leave a legacy at D103 with the launch of the Legacy Brick Fundraiser. With the completion of the Daniel Wright construction project, the Foundation invites families to donate $100 to inscript their name on a brick pathway outside the remodeled school.
This LFF Legacy Brick Fundraiser video, narrated by Daniel Wright Principal Michelle Blackley and featuring the new school mascot, outlines the project. This is a great opportunity to bring our community together, so please consider a donation. The Learning Fund and all of our schools appreciate your generous support.
