Principal's Message for October
Dear Lakeview Families,
I want to express my thanks for your support of our Lakeview Picnic. We had a great turnout and it was fun to meet so many of you. The dancers were terrific and the book share was a big hit. I want to send a special thank you to the PTA and everyone that helped out. It is great to have the support of so many people.
There are a couple of things that have us concerned. In the past week we have had some close calls between cars and students biking to school. Please review bicycle safety rules with your student. If you are driving near the school, please slow down and be patient. With the new high school around the corner from us, we have seen a big increase in traffic and we want to keep everyone safe. We would also like to remind the students that if they ride their bike to school, they should be locking it up in the bike rack. We have had some theft reported to us and a good bike lock can prevent that.
The school district has also asked us to evaluate the safety procedures at our school. We are asking that if you need to be in the building for any reason, please check in at the office and get a visitor pass. We need to know who is in the building at all times. If you have a high school student, please remind them not to cut through our campus or fields. No unauthorized person should be on the school grounds during the school day.
One last thing I would like to share. We have implemented some changes regarding behavior at the school. Each teacher and grade level has its own plan for classroom management. That plan usually helps student manage their behavior and succeed in school. However, if a behavior problem persists, we now have a room we are calling the Life Skills Room (LSR) where a teacher can send a student to get some extra help managing inappropriate behavior. When they arrive at the LSR, they will work with Mrs. Thompson, our LSR coordinator. She will review their behavior, have them evaluate what is going wrong, and make a plan for change. Depending on the behavior, appropriate consequences are given. Parents are always called when a student has been in the LSR. We know that parents are the biggest factor in helping to change behavior and we want to always be working as a team. Thankfully, it is only a small percentage of our students that will ever need this extra help but I wanted you to be aware that it is available when needed.
We have so many great things happening at the school! We try to share those on social media and our webpage. I hope you are able to check those out. The students and teachers are working very hard and are having great success. Thanks for supporting us in all we are trying to do! I am grateful to be a Lakeview Lion!
Sincerely,
Mr. Barker

After School Program
Hi Lakeview Lions
After School Program has started and there are slots available. We are still deciding our fall clubs so keep in touch with us on social media!
Like our Facebook page: Lakeview After School Program.
Follow us on Instagram: @lvafterschool
At the After School Program, one of our priorities to provide a stress free environment. That includes finding the perfect instructors who the students feel comfortable with coming to for help with homework, bullying, suggestions, and so forth.
We want as many students as possible to experience this program, this is where you come in! We are giving the chance to sponsor one of our students tuition. This donation would provide a healthy snack every day and supplies for enrichments activities such as art, STEM, etc. A donation like this is a tremendous way to give back to our wonderful Lakeview Elementary and most importantly laying the groundwork for a student's success.
If you are interested, have questions, or would like to donate in other ways please email Molly Woffinden mollyw@provo.edu or go check out our Amazon wish list!

Free Mental Health Awareness Night
The Provo Community Outreach Council of Intermountain Healthcare, in conjunction with
several community partners, is sponsoring a FREE Mental Health Services Awareness Night on
Tuesday, October 9, 2018, from 6 – 9 p.m. The event will take place at Utah Valley Hospital in
the Education Center, located on the second floor of the Utah Valley Clinic building (Sorenson
Tower).
This event is intended for “gatekeepers” or leaders and other highly
invested community members, but not for actual mental health clients. Past attendees have
overwhelmingly expressed satisfaction with the material and resources that were presented.
This event will increase awareness of the services available to those who so desperately need
them. To register for the Mental Health Services Awareness Night or for more information,
please go to www.utahvalleyhospital.org/mentalhealthnight . Pre-registration is required even
though the event is free. Please email questions to janet.frank@imail.org . Dress for the evening
