While some students have already met grade level goals, all students should practice to improve their skills. Students were instructed if they did not meet their minimum goal that they should practice at home. They may practice anytime at typingtraining.com. Students can even use their Chromebooks to practice anywhere they have an Internet connection. They all have their login information. If you have any issues logging on at home, please email me. You can monitor your child's progress at home and school by going to the reports menu after they have logged into Typing Training. Many computer students email to ask login information or for me to assign specific assignments on typingtraining.com. I welcome these emails and respond as soon as possible.
7th and 8th graders revisited their Microsoft Excel calculators, adding additional formulas. The have been planning a virtual party and found they needed more funds to buy the drinks and food they wanted. They added a virtual carwash as a fundraiser and are now in the black again! They also completed a Blabberize.com activity using #oneword. This activity guaranteed lots of fun while they learned another skill.

From the Art Room
6th Grade is beginning a water color unit and we are going to be experimenting with different techniques. They just finished the torn animal project and again a great group of talent.
7th grade. We are working on a really cool project and students are excited about it. It is a lot of work for them but they are handling it so well. We are creating a project with movement, perspective, and focus. They will be working in stages of the next few weeks.
8th Grade. We are wrapping up multiple projects, and moving into a crafting section where we will make Holiday trees from magazines, the students seem to be pretty excited to see how these turn out, should be a fun thing that will take us to winter break.
Thanks for all the support, and just as a reminder, check with your students and make sure they have all their art supplies, I still have students who don’t have 2 sharpie markers. They need a wooden pencil, a fine tip black sharpie, and an ultra fine sharpie with them everyday in Art.
As always, if you have any questions and concerns please feel free to contact me.cchapman@fulton58.org
Artfully yours!

6th grade band: 6th grade band students just finished taking a rhythm quiz with all fo the rhythms that we have learned so far this year. They will be put in the grade book shortly and your student will be able to see if they are required to retake the test. All students in band should be practicing at home every night for about 10-15 minutes. The brass and percussion are working on number 28-30 in the book and the woodwinds are working on number 45-50. The woodwinds have a playing test on Monday 12-4 over number 45 in the book. Out next concert will take place on Monday December 19 at 6:30 PM in the middle school gym.
7th grade band: 7th grade band completed chair testing and is moving forward in their work on their sheet music for the concert on Monday, December 19 at 6:30 PM in the middle school gym. We are very excited about the progress that they have made and we are excited to see what happens throughout the rest of the year. Please encourage your students to practice at home. Remember that students may also challenge someone in higher chair than them, this has become great motivation for these students and theur concert music is coming along nicely!
8th grade band: The students in 8th grade band have been working so hard on the sheet music for the upcoming concert. We have a guest clinician coming to work with the group on Monday December 12 during their class. This is a great opportunity for the kiddos and I am so excited to see what he has to offer us in preparation for our concert on Monday, December 19 at 6:30 PM in the middle school gym. Please remember the dress for the concert in black polo and khaki pants.
7th and 8th grade wire choir: Students in this class are preparing Christmas Carols as we have been given the oppotunity to perform at FEC and Playhouse Bistro on December 16. This will be during school hours and more information will become available as I receive it. This will REPLACE the concert on DECEMBER 19! THE GUITAR KIDS WILL NOT PERFORM AT THE CONCERT AS THEY WERE REGULARLY SCHEDULED TO!
As always if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us via email at sglynn@fulton58.org or kneudecker@fulton58.org.

HORNET SINGERS:
Hornet Singers...though they be but few, they be mighty!
I can't believe it is already December! We have been digging into our Christmas music...as you may have heard around your house...and preparing to finish 2016 strong.
The upcoming concert will be held in the FMS Gym on Tuesday, Dec. 20th at 7pm. We hope to see you there!
The choir handbook and schedule is online for your perusal anytime. (www.fulton58.org)
HARMONY HORNETS:
We can not wait until this group gets to showcase what they have been so diligently working on every Tuesday! Our amazing group is made up of a mixture of 6th-8th grade (7th/8th band or guitar members) and has great energy and interest in making great music. Rehearsals are every Tuesday from 3:20 - 4:15 in the FMS choir room (G07).
The debut concert for Harmony Hornets will be held in the FMS Gym on Tuesday, Dec. 20th at 7pm. We hope to see you there!
If you ever have any questions, concerns, or comments, feel free to contact me at llehman@fulton58.org.
HORNET PRIDE:
We are making excellent progress on our December concert music! I'm so proud of the hard work each student is putting in. We had the opportunity to perform with Hornet Singers at the Student Council assembly this week! It was a lot of fun, and we sang well.
Please make sure you have our Tuesday, December 20th concert in your calendar!
PLEASE REMEMBER that choir members MUST be in uniform at ALL of our performances this year. You may purchase the required polo shirt by bring $13 ($15 for XL) to Dr. Moebes. You will receive a receipt for your payment.
ARTS ALIVE:
We are learning, practicing, and applying terminology and symbols related to dynamics (relative loudness of softness in music), tempo (speed in music), and articulation (the style of the sounds being produced.) We are practicing and performing these concepts to help us remember what each term means. Our goal is to be able to discuss music using appropriate music terminology.
WIN: Acting Enrichment
Friday was the last day of this 6th grade WIN Enrichment rotation! The students have done A LOT of work in the last couple of weeks! They created plays by sitting in a circle, each person contributing only 1 word at a time. This makes it difficult for 1 person to determine the direction the story will take. After they finished writing their stories, they staged and acted them out! They created and/or found any props used. One certainly never knows WHAT our students will come up with! Click the videos posted below to see their TRULY creative work.

Can You Hear?
Mr. Jackson
What a great time of year!!!! We have come away from Thanksgiving and the opportunity to reflect and give thanks for everything we have. We are quickly racing towards Christmas and the giving and receiving of gifts to loved ones. I found myself thinking of gifts that would be more than a month of enjoyment, or until the game was "beat". Enter the "cliche" library plug... books are possibly one of the perfect gifts. You can become anything, you can find any interest, you can master skills you wouldn't otherwise even have access to. Books remove limits, raise ability levels, and feed and energize our brains.
Check out this great link READING I found that works through some ways to encourage your students to read. Some fantastic recommendations with some very practical application. Enjoy the time, make memories, and grow together with your students.
Feel free to contact me at jjackson@fulton58.org with any questions or concerns.

FMS Guidance: Mrs. Garner & Mrs. Horstmeier
One of the foremost advances in schoolwide discipline is the emphasis on schoolwide systems of support that include proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create positive school environments. Instead of using a peicemeal approach of individual behavioral management plans, a continuum of positive behavior support (PBS) for all students within a school is implemented in areas including classroom, and non-classroom settings (such as hallways, buses and restrooms). Positive behavior support is an application of a behaviorally-based systems approach to enhance the capacity of schools, families and communities to design effective environments that improve the link between research-validated practices and the environments in which teaching and learning occurs.
We recently shared out some information to our teachers on encouraging expected behaviors and sharing with parents and guardians in our smore. You can try these tips out at home as well.
Encouraging Expected Behavior in the Classroom
Did you know?
Teacher praise has been supported as among one of the most empirically sound teacher competencies (Maag, 2001)
When we focus our praise on positive actions, we support a sense of competency and autonomy that helps students develop real self-esteem (Davis, 2007)
Non-contingent attention is attention provided regardless of performance (smiles, greetings, conversations)
Contingent attention is given right after the desired behavior takes place (specific positive feedback after following teacher directions)
Tangible reinforcers (typically a ticket or coupon exchanged for individual, group or class-wide item or activity)
Free & Frequent Reinforcers:
High rates of specific positive verbal feedback
Stickers
Thumbs up
Notes home
Schoolwide ticket
Smiles
High fives
Intermittent Reinforcers:
Positive phone calls home
Extra computer time
Read in a favorite spot
Leave class early
Note home
Time to talk with peers
Choose your partner
Strong & Long-Term Reinforcers:
Recognition by principal
“No tardy” class party
Student of the week
Class field trip
Gift certificates
Class snack
Class lunchAdapted from MO SW-PBS Effective Classroom Practice (2008) & Virginia Department of Education (2011)
