Global Warming
Solutions for a Greener World
What is global warming?
The world, as we know it, is increasing in temperature every year. Caused by fossil fuels, global warming is when our atmosphere traps harmful gasses, like a blanket. This is causing our climate to change over time, raising temperatures and other harmful changes to our earth.
Long Term Effects
Long term effects can include
- Temperature rising
- Extinction of animals
- Drier Climate
- Mass melting and flooding
- Ecosystems such as corral reefs being destroyed
Solar Power
Solar power is a source of energy that is expensive, but can produce lots of energy over a period of time. Since sunlight is very prominent, solar power is very reliable and will not produce any green house gasses.
Alternatives to Fossil Fuels
Hydroelectricity
Hydroelectricity is energy created by water. How it works is that water goes down a slope to push a turbine. The motion of the turbine is then transferred into energy that is used in our homes.
Wind Power
Wind power is also seen very often. Wind pushes turbines, and the motion of the turbine generates energy, similarly like hydroelectricity.
How you can help
To help, you can:
- pick up litter
- turn off electronics when unneeded
- install solar panels in your home
- open your curtains instead of lights
A Helpful Organization
SEPA, the Solar Energy Power Association works for the usage of solar panels throughout the USA. The organization tries to create cheaper and more efficient panels. This can reduce the amount of emitted greenhouse gasses in the air and promote alternatives.
