AMAZING THINGS ARE HAPPENING - Formative Assessments
What is a formative assessment? A formative assessment can be a lot of things and it can look a lot of different ways. There's flexibility in what it can look like because what makes it a formative is how you use the information. A formative assessment is an assessment for the learning - and it includes feedback and opportunity for students to improve their learning. Whereas a summative assessment is an assessment of the learning - and is an opportunity for students to show what they have learned.
NP3 teachers have made huge changes and strides to their formative measures over the last few years. Staff have been integrating formatives into their lessons more often, as well as taking the step to create common formative assessments with their partners! This is hard work - hats off to you! Some examples of what staff are using for formative assessments: clipboards with student rosters to monitor student learning progression, exit slips with a specific focus, a rating system with the addition of feedback, and white boards. Way to go NP3 - with your tireless efforts in making learning more accessible for every student!
